Write a poem - And That Is The End of Us

My name slips from your lips

Like you’ve been waiting to say it since

Before we ever met.

I cry a little,

Because it’s wrong, all wrong,

It didn’t take this long

Last time this happened,

Happened for the first time –

The wrong song is playing in the background,

We’re dancing and you twirl me around

One too many times.

Haven’t I been here before? But I trip

And you catch me and suddenly the music is gone

And you look me in the eye

And tell me, ‘It’s gone. It’s gone wrong.’

And I sigh, expelling my worry,

And with my next breath drawing in grief,

‘It’s okay,’ you tell me, ‘I’m not in a hurry.’

So we dance on in a place I barely remember

Because all I remember

Is dancing with you.

When I awake from the dream I never dreamt

I am sitting on the sticky floor of the waiting room.

The clock on the wall is wrong, but it ticks, and it comforts some.

Everyone here is worried, waiting, waiting worriedly, worrying,

But I am no longer amongst them.
