千年以前，東大陸的探險家率先在極北地區發現了奧羅拉這種能量，因此主宰了整個東西大陸乃至世界長達千年。然而近百年來，隨著西大陸的科技的進步以及奧羅拉祕密的西傳，天平在不知不覺間已經開始倒向另外一邊。


東方彈丸小國「大灣」臨海突然發生的船難意外吸引了西方世界的注意，殖民帝國拉瓦克決定派遺使節團前往調查。隨著調查的深入，此次看似意外的船難背後似乎竟是政治力量的糾葛。


土生土長的少年文仔恰好目睹了船難的發生，而救下唯一西方倖存者的決定讓他本來平凡的人生軌跡偏離了軌道，他被迫捲入了這此的事件裡，既使他最大的願望只有與心愛的女孩長相廝守。


有著複雜過去與背景的神祕女子蘿拉，在一次與小主人出遊的意外中，遇上了著名的賞金獵人團體兀鷲，本來總是過著了無生趣日子的她似乎看見了不一樣的生活。對未來感到迷惘的她決定跟著他們前往東方，找尋屬於她的自由與平等。


本作故事背景設定約等同在十九世紀末，用視角人物(POV)的方式進行敘事，每章標題即是該視角人物。
