Bandardy: The capital country of the Blest Principate. Rivers, fields, forests, and hills make for a pleasant, picturesque landscape. Home to wealth, a thriving imperialist attitude, a culture of warmongering and citizen-soldiering, and strict adherence to a central faith. Its name descends from an ancient tribe that called itself the "everywhere people."72Please respect copyright.PENANA34Xd08Dbon
Norinna: The ancestral homeland of the Bandard people. More mountainous and hilly than Bandardy, but still home to fertile riverlands and natural ore deposits. Now a sister country of Bandardy. Over time, it has diverged in its culture with Bandardy, and any Bandard finding themself in Norinna will find the laws and customs familiar yet uncanny. Bandards oft call Norinna 'the softer cousin of Bandardy' due to its lessening of the more strict aspects of Bandard cultural norms. Its name is thought to mean "northerly country," but with the age of the country, it may just as well be a name lost to time.72Please respect copyright.PENANAz06zGUBFXE
Orossland: Mountain country filled with valuable mines and quarries, settled by ethnic Bandard colonists and native to barbarians that have eagerly converted to Bandard ways. A sister country of Bandardy, any Bandard will find its laws, customs, and culture very familiar. Vaguely named after the humble beast-of-burden, the auroch.72Please respect copyright.PENANA2at2F15gNG
Gladland: The 'barbaric' cousins of the northwards Bandardy and sister countries. Follows an archaic form of feudalism, but slowly (very slowly) changing with the times. Paganism isn't exactly welcome here, but it does thrive in the more unscrupulous villages and glades hidden from prying eyes. Heretics are treated the same, with the exception of one heresy in particular that has rooted itself in the Gladland. It is said that they once spoke and acted just like the Bandards, but warped into a stranger culture over time (some say it is a scrying glass into the future of Norinna), while others say that the opposite happened and the country is stuck in the tribalistic pagan culture of Bandardy's ancient ancestors. Its name is disputed to be named after the polearm weapon that its warriors wield or after a more-ancient-than-ancient sword.72Please respect copyright.PENANAAFRu7sYts0
Gennary: A relatively new addition to the Principate. Grassy hills and rocky mountains settled by nomads-turned-knights. Said to be descended from the East Hethians, the cousins of those who ruled the world. A prime exporter of copper and an attraction for its natural wellsprings. Called Hegyerodor or Hegyemseg by its inhabitants, meaning something like "hill-country" or "mountain-folk."72Please respect copyright.PENANAMR589IpjDf
Voden: A colonial city-state situated a short skip away on the coastal valleys of Old Rumia. A force to be reckoned with that, to everyone's relief, reckons with coin and mercenary work rather than conquest, attributed to its being a city and not a large country whatsoever. Heretics and pagans may find dark alleys to hide away in within Voden's walls, but recent efforts have seen most of the city's residents following the good faith or, at the very least, the less offensive heresies. Not officially considered a sister country of Bandardy, but it may as well be. Its name descends from a barbarian word for "watery."72Please respect copyright.PENANAiPV4HL51pk
Nisiona: Another colony, but led by a theocracy intent on converting the pagan barbarians of the coasts and mountains. Conversion is most often through proselytizing, but minor holy wars are occasionally waged with the against the more powerful, more stubborn pagans. The wars waged by Nisiona are backed by Principate and Voden mercenaries and supplies, but a proper crusade has not been waged in a very long time. Named after a barbarian word for "coastal sands."72Please respect copyright.PENANA7sGgd5rZxO
Possemia: A kingdom of mercenary barbarians settled down into traditional feudalism, but retaining their warlike disputes. They have converted, but warped the Bandard faith into something of their own, considered heresy by most. The newest official addition to the Principate. Its name supposedly comes from one of three different terms: one referring to slash-and-burn farming, another referring to fighting, and the other referring to cattle-herding, but that's mostly just a story alluding to the Possemians' barbaric past. The lingua franca is divided between the language of the old mercenary barbarians and a descendent dialect of their conquered enemies.72Please respect copyright.PENANAh3iFl7hC0Q
Rumia: Often not referred to as a real country at all. Consisting of the Principalities of Martin and Lucas. Bandardy, Gennary, Voden, and Possemia all lay claim to what's left of the once-mighty barbarians, and Nisonia mopped up those that migrated out of their ancestral homelands. The newest unofficial addition to the Principate, though Rumians would disagree. Its name comes from the old city of Ruden (Bandard: Rothene; Possemian: Rudýn; Rumian & dialects: Rudeč, Ruden, or Rodyn), capital of Possemia, named after the red clay along the riverbanks in its valleys.72Please respect copyright.PENANAiCN538VGbw
Martin: Fine land of hills and a long river valley, plagued by internal conflict and many neighboring powermongers. Famed for its silver mines and salted river fish. Its name is a romanticized translation of the Rumian family name Martinec, or the equivalent Possemian family name Marciniak, both meaning something along the lines of "descended from Martin/Marcin." Martin was supposedly a famous warrior of Old Rumia that led the fight against the invaders while greater tribes than his died around him. The Martin family is one of the last great barbarian tribes left in New Rumia, though the Marciniak family that lives in the Possemian part of Old Rumia is thought to be distant cousins of the Martineces.72Please respect copyright.PENANATSR2zfABEF
Lucas: If Rumia is the backwater of the Blest Principate, then Lucas is the mud settled underneath the water. Only useless hills and mountains without a bit of silver, iron, or even lead, it remains the last stronghold of paganism and heresy within the Principate's borders thanks to its formidable natural defenses, including an extensive cave and cavern system. Its name is a romanticized translation of the Rumian family name Luko, meaning something along the lines of "descended from Lucas/Lukas." Lukas was apparently a hero of Old Rumia that fought to his dying breath against his enemies, thought to be the embodiment of what it means to be Rumian, for good or ill. The Lucas family is one of the last great barbarian tribes left in Rumia.72Please respect copyright.PENANA5aDj1aRNR0
Natalia: One of two subjugated Rumian tribes within the conquered lands of Old Rumia. Situated on a river and rich farmland. Paganism has been practically erased from Natalia, but it still has a reputation of being a den of heretics, thieves, and dishonest folk of all kinds. The millers' guilds in particular are thought to be a menace upon good society, so much so that they are sometimes called 'miller barons.' Its name is a romanticized translation of the Rumian family name Natálieska, referring to a mythical heroine of Old Rumia that 'wisely' submitted to the invaders to avoid bloodshed. The Natalia family is the last great barbarian tribe in Possemia. Vassal to Possemia, called Natalkaska or Nataliewiczowa in Possemian.72Please respect copyright.PENANAwEpKXNDjk4
Natasha: The sister house to Natalia. The two of them together are often referred to as just "the Natalias." Situated on a river and rich farmland, neighboring Natalia. Natasha, as with Natalia, is reputed as an ill land, though with the added reputation of the Gennarian promiscuousness. Its name is a romanticized translation of the Rumian family name Natašacová, referring to the same mythical heroine as Natalia refers to. The Natasha family is the last great barbarian tribe in Gennary. Vassal to Gennary, called Szandra or Szandrané in Gennarian, a completely unrelated name to Natašacová that is a common personal/given name in Gennary referring to their own mythical hero of old, unrelated to the Rumian heroine.72Please respect copyright.PENANASlPmS7O3us
Hethany: Called by many names: Hethany, Ithany, Hethia, Itthonlysag, and others. The old ruler of the world, now reduced to ruin, dried rivers, and dusty plains. It is said that "Itthonlysag" meant "The Place for All Peoples."72Please respect copyright.PENANAyAMkaIkeUp
East Hethia: Called Domitthemseg by its own people and sometimes named by foreigners as "the Fields." This is the ancestral home of the Gennarians. A vast grassland similar to Hethany, but somewhat more fertile and without mountains, instead home to rolling hills. The name "Domitthemseg" has a mysterious origin, but is said to mean something akin to "younger country," "small place," or "hills and flats."72Please respect copyright.PENANAoWpiIwKTGd
