I started choking. Words that left my mouth were subdued by each second. I saw bright light shine from the ground. Is this how I'm going to die? When I began to accept that I was dying, all the roots that entangled me loosened their grip. "Are you okay?" Asked someone.
Panting, I stood up to gaze at where the voice came from. I saw a violet-haired girl. Her face was caked with makeup- black smokey eyes, bright red lipstick, and a pink blush. She reminds me of my sister when she tried on our mother's cosmetics.
On a closer look, I could say her hair was dyed violet as her hair roots were pitch black.
She sighed and said, "There's a problem."
Sure, I know there's a problem. The man who almost strangled me to my death with roots was now unconscious and tied up with the same sources he tried to kill me. There's also a weird-looking young girl in her jeans who is clearly not from this century. I am the only one who came to 15 century France in my time machine. If I find out they sent someone else to steal my job--- "Please listen to me!" Yelled the girl as she looked at me.
I looked at her. She could be younger than I thought. Her eyes were puffy and filled with guilt. She had a remorseful expression on her face when looking at the ground. I asked her firmly, "Who are you, and which village do you come from?" I know she does not belong here, but I'm in a facade now.
"I don't belong here," she spoke, "I come from the future. I was told to bring the lady in the chariot of a man with this blue necklace." She showed me the necklace the unconscious man had worn.
"Help me, please. I have to find the orb. It's the only way I could bring him back."
The afternoon sun was scorching. It is a sign that the trial will start soon.
"I think you have the wrong person. Now, if you leave, I'll finish the business I have with this man," I said as I pointed to the tied-up man.
"I can't leave. Not without him," she said.
"What do you want?" Should I help this girl who seemed to come from the future, or should I focus on not having to give a refund again?
"Help me."
"Go back the way you came from," I replied. I can't let unauthorized people from the future stay in the past, "How did you come here?" I asked the question I pondered about a while ago.
"It's complicated," she said, "Will you help me if I say?"
I gave no response, but she continued, "I tried to operate my father's time machine, but he caught me not later than I pressed some keys. He told me to bring you along the way to find the orb when the machine set off," tears swelled up in her eyes. "I did it to... find my brother who disappeared. We all miss him. I must find the orb to bring him back. Could you help me?"
Though I didn't want to say yes, I could not refuse either. She started sobbing. I would be found guilty by my heart if I left her now. But I suppose I could help her and then give him a proper trial. It can't take that long. Who was her father? Nobody I know owns a time machine and has a daughter and a son. I have to find out.
"Lead the way," I said.
"Really?" she looked up at me with teary eyes, "I-I heard the orb has been spotted in the east mountains."
"Then there's no time to waste," I said as I carried my dress to stroll forward. I could feel her gaze on me in admiration. She soon joined me as we walked next to each other in silence. We freed the nobleman when we left. His soldiers will find him there, and posters will be put in the capital to find us. It would be easier to get to him that way. I would know where to meet him again. It would be peaceful if it all went as planned...
"You two! Halt! Have you seen a nobleman in his twenties go by this way?"
...but everything is against me now that I chose to do a good deed.
