Carmen rolled onto her back. The knife in her torso made her painfully aware of every breath. She tried to still her panicking mind by taking slow, shallow breaths; she wouldn't feel much pain this way.

"I don't know why you keep trying to ruin us, Carmen." Cory said, stepping over her. "We love each other. How could you think we should break up?"

"I don't...love you," Carmen whispered.

"You're just saying that. That feeling will blow over and we'll be back to normal, yeah?"
