Morikubo hurried through the park, muttering to himself, "This is a disaster. I went all the way back there and still couldn't find it; I don't know how I'm going to explain this to my friend tomorrow."
Suddenly, a strange sound echoed from the distance, and a flock of birds burst from the woods. Morikubo stopped in his tracks, nervous, and glanced toward the direction of the noise. He then quickened his pace, his expression tense, muttering, "I should have known better than to make this trip. There’s been a string of mysterious injury cases lately, and it feels like they’ve been following a path, gradually closing in on this district. It’s gotta be another one of those 'Ability Users' again. What is wrong with the world? Why does it have to keep mutating people with the power to do so much evil?"
Out of the corner of his eye, Morikubo caught sight of a girl in simple attire not far ahead. He couldn't help but grumble, "It’s one thing to ignore the news, but it’s nearly nightfall—lingering in the woods like this is just dangerous."
Morikubo hesitated for a moment, turning his head as if to leave, but stopped after only two or three steps. "No matter how antisocial I am, I can't just stand by and watch someone get hurt." After a pause, he turned around firmly, headed toward the girl, and waved, calling out, "Hey! Miss! It’s dangerous in the woods after dark—I’ll walk you out..."
Before he could finish, Morikubo saw the girl talking to the trees. He froze. Was she using a Bluetooth headset? He couldn't see any earbuds, and there was no microphone near her mouth. Even more bizarre, who was she gesturing at?
"I’m not dealing with some terrifying Ability User, am I?" Morikubo muttered.
At that moment, the girl seemed to be alerted, turning toward his direction.
Morikubo couldn't help but step back. "Is she looking at me?" He looked left and right. "Sure enough, it's so late, nobody else is walking in this park. I’m the only idiot here."
He looked at her again. "No mistake. She’s walking straight toward me. What should I do? Wouldn't it be rude to just run away?" He took another two steps back.
"Forget being rude or embarrassing; I’ve backed up so far that a blind person would have noticed. Would a scared, fragile girl be this aggressive, walking straight toward me?"
"Wait, she’s not a good person. I need to run!"
Morikubo turned and sprinted, only to hear the sound of the girl running after him. "This girl is definitely trouble! Who chases after someone just because they were spotted?"
He glanced back, confirming it was indeed the sound of her running.
"Sir, please wait!" Iori shouted as she ran. "What is wrong with him? There have been incidents around here lately—did he see something?"
Morikubo ran ahead. "What on earth did I stumble upon? Is she a serial killer? Why is she chasing me like her life depends on it?" His thoughts faltered. "Why am I not an athlete? Getting out of breath being chased by a girl—this is so pathetic!"
As he ran, he scanned the pedestrian path ahead. "I can't hide on a brightly lit path like this!" He decided to veer into the woods. "With the trees blocking the way, she won't be able to see where I'm headed."
"Wait, sir, don't run into the blind spots! It's dangerous around here!" Iori gasped, barely able to speak. She leaned against a large tree, breathless. "How old is he? Is he tired of living? At least I know for sure, with an idiot like that, he’s probably neither a witness nor the perpetrator." Iori panted, trying to stabilize her heart rate. She seemed to hear something, lifted her head, and her expression turned serious.
"Is that really it? Dammit, that troublesome guy. Which direction is he in?" Ignoring her exhaustion, Iori sprinted forward.
Morikubo walked through the woods, panting. "I think I lost that weirdo. If I guessed wrong, I hope she doesn't actually enter the woods. Can't she just go home like a normal person? What is she chasing me for?!" He stood still, hands on his knees, taking deep breaths.
"Sir, get out of the woods, now!" Iori’s voice echoed through the trees.
"Is she a demon? Stop chasing me! Why did I stop in the first place!" Morikubo took off in the opposite direction. He tripped over something, and just before hitting the ground, he slammed his stomach into something at a strange height. He cried out in pain.
"Sir, what happened? I'm coming!" Iori yelled.
Holding his stomach with one hand and clutching the grass with the other, Morikubo tried to stand up. "What did I hit? It felt like... I was kicked..." He struggled but couldn't get up. As his hand brushed the grass, he seemed to grab something, his expression turning puzzled.
Iori hid behind a tree and shouted again, "Are you okay, sir? I’m coming right over!" She waited silently behind the tree, not moving.
"Was I right? Did she leave? So this guy really isn't one of them." Iori finally stepped out from behind the tree.
Morikubo sat on the grass and said, "Why are you being so shy now?"
"You figured it out?" Iori asked.
"By standard logic, my observational skills are quite good," Morikubo replied.
"Running into the woods in a situation like this—I don't find that 'normal' at all," Iori countered.
"A girl who frantically chases a gentleman isn't exactly normal either," Morikubo retorted.
"It’s late, and the recent site of the mysterious injury cases is right nearby. What are you doing in a place like this?"
"I went back to the club room to borrow something. It was a wasted trip. But, turns out I had half of it on me all along," Morikubo said, his body relaxing. "I still have to pay for the other half, but that’s cheaper than replacing the whole thing."
Iori shot him a look of suspicion.
Morikubo continued, "On the other hand, you... you and that tree were getting pretty cozy. Are you related?"
Iori sighed. "So you really did see it. Don't you think it’s possible I was just practicing singing with a wireless mic?"
Morikubo said, "Normally, I don't meddle in other people's business. Even if I was wrong and you hadn't chased me, I would have just felt a bit guilty. After all, it's dangerous around here lately. But since you chased me, I didn't know if you were the source of the danger. Nobody knows what these Ability Users are capable of."
Iori said, "Likewise. I couldn't tell if you were the source of the incidents, either. You’re either someone who needs protecting, or someone who needs to be arrested." She looked at Morikubo’s condition and added, "How long are you planning on sitting there? How about I escort you back?"

381Please respect copyright.PENANAxbDHhNBRiF
381Please respect copyright.PENANA4tCjz0hKA8
381Please respect copyright.PENANAHYlb4WgJVv
381Please respect copyright.PENANAaSQGhvsG7d
381Please respect copyright.PENANA2MPC1CPers
381Please respect copyright.PENANAhOAZa7CN32
381Please respect copyright.PENANAipDq1GPtKc
381Please respect copyright.PENANAtMm2cUNJAg
381Please respect copyright.PENANAFfJHJZcFwK
381Please respect copyright.PENANA5R7DuD66nX
381Please respect copyright.PENANArwsuSLPyp9
381Please respect copyright.PENANAOrApasTWwp
381Please respect copyright.PENANAbJVZys2Gzw
381Please respect copyright.PENANA0xLZAS1Qek
381Please respect copyright.PENANAJsFCIm3kLG
381Please respect copyright.PENANADTqgogHwJK
381Please respect copyright.PENANAmSbjZIKw5S
381Please respect copyright.PENANA6AkhmnuKDp
381Please respect copyright.PENANAfAJZOKzAVG
381Please respect copyright.PENANAJQ3wsmD8el
381Please respect copyright.PENANAmEKZJzx2zB
381Please respect copyright.PENANAuUZrFWsFtg
381Please respect copyright.PENANAEUQeKTGQsM
381Please respect copyright.PENANArSoDliQWxN
381Please respect copyright.PENANAgwEfsiQWcG
381Please respect copyright.PENANA37571NanRs
381Please respect copyright.PENANAA6iEPecccS
381Please respect copyright.PENANAigBf79xHQB
381Please respect copyright.PENANAXdxZtAyh2m
381Please respect copyright.PENANADEvqUu8vVZ
381Please respect copyright.PENANAgheIzCssgP
381Please respect copyright.PENANAqLQIvBAfdV
381Please respect copyright.PENANAjUwUCOWbPy
381Please respect copyright.PENANAjSTZDu4Rra
381Please respect copyright.PENANAloNTa694F8
