“I-is Kashiwagi-san home already, Goro-san?”
Goro-san is a security guard who, if there are still workers in the building, he sits at the reception.
"Hm... I didn't see him coming out this way, did I?"
"Thank You!"
I went straight to the elevator. Inside I pressed the number four button. When the elevator doors open, I immediately turned to the left and ran to the end. One of them holding a plastic bag containing some of the food I bought at the konbini (conveinience store) which is three blocks from the office.
“K-kashiwagi-san!?” my tone jerked spontaneously.
(E-eh? S-she's still the same as usual? Turns out she's a robot- Eh um. Anyway…, my tone was too loud, right? I-is Kashiwagi-san going to behead me today?)
“Mu-munekata-san? W-what's wrong? Have you missed something?"
Kashiwagi-san also looked surprised. But my worry is not imagining. Kashiwagi-san's face was pale, even when she turned to look at me she looked a bit soft.
I walked closer to her slowly.
“Mu-munekata-san? W-what is it?”
As if in a horror movie, Kashiwagi-san is my victim. That's how the current situation seems.
Kashiwagi-san felt tense. She was even willing to let go of computer affairs and her booming assignments just to see me full of a thousand questions for her.
I immediately put my plastic bag hard enough on the table which spontaneously made me startled, shocked, frightened. Now the expression on his face became very scared because I had no expression at all.
“Mu-mu-munekata-san?! He-hey!!”
(Hm… so Yamashita-san has a point?)
Quickly, I set my goofy smile while shooting my hair like there's nothing else I can do.
"U-um…, I bought some food, hehehe…"
Kashiwagi-san's body looked limp and immediately collapsed limply leaning on her office chair. Her skin, which seemed to have tightened with tension, was now starting to stretch again. Her eyes had already narrowed because her thoughts didn't come to that. Nothing horror.
“Ne-next time, y-you can't scare me, Munekata-san! Phewhhhh….,”
"Ehehehe sorry…"
Kashiwagi-san took the contents of the plastic bag one by one. As usual, her eyes were always sharp when checking the food I bought, especially in the nutritional value section.
Suddenly, as if the blood rises ...
“I-I can't possibly eat this much, you know!” her tone protested, but the sound of her stomach was heard by me.
Her cheeks flushed.
“Ahahaha…, no problem Kashiwagi-san. You can eat all or some…”
"N-not all, O-obviously!" But her eyes looked like a kitten when she saw the tuna and plum Onigiri which was the most expensive of the ones I bought earlier. After all, what kind of person would turn down a tuna and plum Onigiri, huh?
"Um..., you're not allergic to plums or tuna, aren’t you?"
“O-o-oh…, no-no! I-I hardly have any food allergies!”
(I wonder why she's the groggy one?)
“Th-then, you should be able to finish them all, right?” I said excitedly.
“I-I told you, NOT-ALL!!!” Kashiwagi-san refused with embarrassment and her face was full of red.
-----------------------MEANWHILE-------------------------
After that, I was surprised that Kashiwagi-san didn't further grumble or protest something else. He just calmed down and immediately ate one - by one that I brought. In fact, she had filled her ramen with hot water taken from a nearby dispenser. While waiting for the ramen, Kashiwagi-san devoured the tuna and plum onigiri I bought without hesitation.
“You don't want to, Munekata-san?”
"Ah, I've had enough of soba just now…,"
We became quite close and familiar. Seeing Kashiwagi-san eat for some reason made my heart relieved. Her cheeks puffed out like a hungry little girl. The interest arose to stroke her head, although of course I didn't dare...
Three of the five onigiri were finished.
“Wh-why are you looking at me like that?” Kashiwagi-san's face started to turn red again, her eyes didn't dare to look at me.
“Eh? W-am I disturbing you?”
“N-no…. B-but I-I don't like being seen…”
(Well, that makes sense. Watching people eat, especially women, is definitely not polite. I should have realized that earlier! After all, being a little friendly doesn't mean I can act however I want, crossing the line between subordinates and superiors, though!)
“I-I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry!”
"Y-You don't need that…"
I paced back and forth to my co-workers' tables, then ended up at a large glass window that had a view of the sky and Edogawa City knick-knacks. Really relaxing.
Meanwhile…
Kashiwagi-san had finished her stomach business. Her face looks more fresh and spirited. Only matcha milk remained, which Kashiwagi-san told me was suitable for drinking during the day. I helped her clean up the trash, both office trash and food wrappers that I gave her.
“Yossh!!! Even now until 12 at night is not impossible!” Her eyes glittered with stars with a smile burning with passion. “Thanks to you, Munekata-san!!” The first time I heard her voice was like the voice of an elementary school child who bought a new toy.
"Ehhhh~ you should get some rest soon!"
“I know, I know… there's only a little left, really~”
Her relaxed and friendly demeanor is quite cute. My laugh startled her a little.
Then… our eyes met each other for a moment. Her gaze was rather flat as if she wanted to see my intentions deeply.
“H-hey, Munekata-san…”
Yes, Kashiwagi-san?
(Eh? What's going on? This… is awkward!)
“Why… are you always nice to me?” Now her voice sounded a bit cold. She seemed to say what she meant.
“Ehhh!? U-um…, am I disturbing you?
She sighed. Kashiwagi-san spontaneously stood up then raised her finger pointing at my chest.
“That's what puzzles me, Munekata-san! Why do you always think I'm distracted? Why do you always apologize so much?”
(Huh? Didn't she always scold me the whole time? I mean, when someone gets angry I think it's quicker to just apologize, right?)
"Ah... if that..."
Now her gaze returned like a hunter. That cold stare is what I always interpret as anger. I couldn't even look back.
Suddenly… Kashiwagi-san lowered her finger, then returned to friendly mode.
“Alright, alright…. I don't want you to misunderstand me too far. But seeing your expression I begin to understand," she said.
“You… probably overheard the conversation this afternoon. That's right, I am the daughter of Shinzou Corp,"
(Well… hearing directly from the person is totally different!)
Kashiwagi-san said that she was acting cold and unsociable because Kashiwagi-san didn't want others to take advantage of her. She admitted that at first it was rare to approach her or talk to her because she was classified as a very rich child in Japan.
But as time went by, Kashiwagi-san started to have lots of friends. Besides being rich, she is also very talented. Make people around her jealous and want to do bad things. However, bad things are like parasites. So that Kashiwagi-san doesn't understand that her close friends are using her for bad things.
It got to the point that many boys approached her, either just playing around, because she was rich and could be taken advantage of, or until she had slandered herself so that Kashiwagi-san transferred schools in the first year of high school.
“Ka-kashiwagi-san…”
I noticed that Kashiwagi-san's eyes were getting dizzy and dripping with even a little dew.
"Ye-yeah, that's why I don't want to be too familiar with other people," she added, taking a deep breath. “And now… my mother is expecting grandchildren. J-judt… what is god trying to co-"
Hearing that I spontaneously embraced her without thinking. I hugged her tightly as if thinking that it would cover the hole in her heart. As if it were my own older sister or girlfriend. I'm starting to think that there are things far worse than not existing. Betrayed and taken advantage of is certainly something I can't accept.
However…
For a moment I didn't realize that what I've been doing right now might be the main cause of byebye my work. Welcome unemployment!
(EEHHHHH~ What did I do?! I'll definitely die tomorrow!)
