Chapter Seven - Loveday

Oh

My

Goodness

He wants to hang out

With someone like me?

Wait,

What should I say?

Yes?

What if he’s just

Pull

Pull

Pulling 

At my leg

Even so

Even so it would be such a shame

To not give him at least a chance

So I open my mouth

But the words don’t come out

They’re instead covered by

The sound of a bell

“Oh,

Oh, shoot.”

He whispers

He glances at me

Pulls a piece of paper out of his notebook

Quickly scribbles his number on it

And then hands it to me

“Call me.”

He says

Before he runs off

Like something is chasing him

Maybe it’s the thought of detention

Or maybe he knows that my eyes

Are following him as he rounds the corner

I look at the paper in my hands

And find myself grinning

Like an idiot

A security guard yells at me

To get to class

I scramble to go

But even that

Cannot wipe the smile on my face

It’s like an infection

Or maybe a parasite

I can’t even stop smiling

When I walk in late to my class

I can’t stop smiling

Even when I see that the only free seat

Is in the front

The paper burns my hand

Like its on fire

By now

I think I have it committed to memory

The number repeated in my head

Like it’s as easy as

1 / 1

Or

1 * 1

In the end though

It all equals the same

I love this feeling

Of flying

Of being so happy

That you’re just overwhelmed with it

When I’m at home that night

I smile at the ceiling

I smile at my dresser

I smile at my bed

I smile at my stuffed bear

Who is the only one that smiles back

I smile at my phone

As I take it out of my pocket

I smile so much

I think that my lips may just roll off my face

And run away

I type his number

Into my phone

And only hesitate

For what?

One second?

Before sending the text
