Do you ever just

Love the sound of your own name?

So much that you whisper it to yourself

Under your breath

and no one else can hear

The name that is just yours

In that moment

At that second

“Loveday”

Is what I whisper to myself most often

“Loveday”

The words just slid off my tongue

Like butter, like syrup

It has a nice ring to it

Sweet as a bell and as beautiful as a harp

Especially when not many people

Share the same name as you

It just makes it even more special

Even more yours

I wish I knew

Why I was named what I was named

Why they chose the word I prize most

But the dead can’t talk

They can only sleep in their bed

Under six feet of dirt

So I must use my imagination

And dream, like the dead, about why

I was given my name

Was it because they loved the day?

Or maybe they wanted me to love the day

To love every second

Of every minute

Of every hour

Of every day

Of every week

Of every month

Of every year

Of every decade

Of every century

Of every Millennium

To love every day forever

And ever

Its unusual

How they think I can love every second

Forever

When they’re not here with me

To love time with me

But if that was their dying wish

Then who am I

To deny them of that wish?

Who am I

To not follow what they wanted for me?

So here I sit

Watching the cars race by

Everyone who sees me

But doesn’t see

The pain I hide inside

They don’t know my name

They only know my face

Black hair, black eyes

But pale skin

A human contrast

My feet swinging, swinging

Wanting to go higher but staying here on the ground

Wanting to fly but can only stay low

Loveday

But I often wish it was

Flyaway

Not matter how much I love it

I would love to flyaway more

Maybe when I’m eight after ten

But we, me, you, us

Know that I wouldn’t

I could never

Get rid of my parents' last gift

To me

Just me

I guess

I will just have

To learn to

For every last minute of my life
