That continuous notification sound coming from my phone seemed irritating while writing my last summer break journal just like the appreciation of my cousin in every family gathering because he was good at academics. No one would have known that we had a cousins' group- 'Mediocre Us'- where we talked about the next gathering topic until we, being stupid, added our sycophant cousin who told everything to elders and we were asked to leave that group. Then our family gathering became more like a bitching club.
*Ting*
"Daph!!"
"Daph!!"... this continued to blink on the screen until I replied back "Calm down Bella! *Boom emoji*"
"Daphne you won't believe what I read just now *excited emoji*" Bella replied.
"Did Jade accept his laughing gas prank?"
"No! Something that will make you happy. Guess!!!"
The only thing that would make me happy was seeing that tall, blue-green eyed boy with blonde hair who joined the college a few days before the break, but obviously I would have never expressed it in front of her. She could spill the beans.
"Are you coming to meet me?" I asked
"I never thought you would say that * emotional emoji*. I wish I could"
"Nothing on earth can make me happier than you do my friend *angel emoji*" Obviously I lied. The chocolate brownie is the only, oh that boy too does the same to me.
"This is the second-best thing that happened to me tonight" She typed in bold to make me curious to ask about the first and I did.
"We got an email from college. It's the best thing I heard in the whole vacation." She still keeping the suspense
"No exams for us?" I asked as I had lost interest in giving exams for masters already.
"You really get happy with small things Daphne. Don't you? *Lol emoji*" This reply from my only best friend made me angry as I was unable to complete my journal.
"Tell me then!"
"Check it yourself."
It was good that she was not around me otherwise no one would have recognised her the next day in college.
I replied with a surety to check the mail and continued writing in the journal about my excitement to see that boy and maybe talk to him, at least knowing each other's name would do.
I was so much into my journal that I slept on my desk and woke up with a backache the next morning. Ignoring my pain, I got ready early and was on the way to college where I remembered about the mail. Being halfway already, I thought that it would be better if I check it after reaching where I found the closed gate, obviously I was too early.
I sat on the bench and took out the phone to check mail.
"The summer break is extended till another Friday due to incomplete construction in the college. - the coordinator"

The college was fully constructed, air conditioners working properly, and well furnished. What on earth they wanted to construct! Was this the thing my only best friend was happy about? I sat there thinking how different kinds of people become friends, like neither I can tell her I was not happy with this extension nor I can pretend to be happy.
I was not ready for any kind of conversation.
No one was home, it was my sister's karate competition which would take hours to get over and I had no choice other than going to Bella's.
Her excitement after seeing me could even destroy the finished construction of the college.
She started talking even before I could say a word and I was able to process none. I was freaking out inside my head but still managed to stand with my tight lips on the door, waiting for my friend to invite me inside.
I felt lucky enough when her granny scolded her for not inviting me inside. I was invited inside with a huge familiar smile and then served Chocolate Brownies! I was so much into it that I ignored whatever I was told at that moment and Bella didn't even care, she kept on talking about a boy as she always does. She is really different from me. She always talks about boys even after knowing that I have no interest in talking about them. I hope I am wrong but does a girl need to be talkative like her to get a boy’s attention?
