In the beginning, there were two brothers named Prometheus and Epimetheus. They were responsible for the development of humanity.
Prometheus stole a sarced fire from the gods and was punished for it. He put Epimetheus and humanity in danger. Prometheus warned his brother about accepting gifts from the gods, telling him it was likely a trap.
Zeus devised a plan to get revenge. The god ordered Hephaestus to raise the first woman. The name of the woman was Pandora.
Zeus ordered Hermes to deliver Pandora to Epimetheus. He also handed over a chest, he warned that it should not be opened.
Pandora was put in the same room as the box and curiosity got the better of her. She opened the box and released darkness upon humanity.
Humanity, which was pure at the time, was now cursed with several different forms of evil. These included Hunger, Greed, Disease, and several others.
There was one good thing that came out of the box. There was hope. Hope was a force that gave strength to humanity and helped them fight off the evil.
Hope was in a weird way both good and bad. Yes, it did help them survive the evil, but it also extended the suffering considering that the evil would never die.
