"Why'd you do that Kane?"
"Do what?"
"Hurt them."
"For you, Alora, It's always been for you. "
"This isn't right Kane, you have to stop, now! "
"I just can't Alora! I-I, I just love you too much. I can't stand the sight of him dissing you! I held back, I swear I did, I wanted to scrape out every shred of him, making sure he couldn't even beg for forgiveness! But... I can't stop, not after what he did "
"Please Kane, Please!" I burst my lungs out, holding him back by his arm. "He'll die, stop!"
Kane rushes forward, ignoring my comments. But I know, this time, I have to stop him.
It's gonna be harsh, but....I need to do this. He's weaker than last time, at this rate he'll-- NO! stop Alora, before anything, you need to hold him back.
"Kane, stop, enough!"
"You-you're scaring the others!," I scrape out as tears start falling down my face. I hated myself for saying that, but I have no choice.
Kane stops and freezes in place; his blade clings to the ground and casts an accusing glance his way. The distressed and agonized look on Kane's face. I've only seen him like this twice.
He stutters, "Are, are yo-u scared of me too?" It pains me so much that I feel like I should just let him kill that jerk, but, I can't, I have to stop this, stop this infinite loop of repeating events, stop him from killing himself!
(Alora, say yes, say YES...)
"...No, never. I'm not. I love you, Kane, it doesn't matter what he says. He can find faults in me all he wants. It doesn't matter to me. All that matters is just you. "
A slight, asymmetric smile with an expression of deep sadness gets pasted over the top of his face. "Sorry, I'm sorry Alora. Do you-can you forgive me?"
"I do silly!"
I grabbed him by his arm and ran away to the deadly woods. Like in one of those cliche novels, whoever goes there never returns alive. I pause, my feet stuck to the ground, my breath heavy as I laugh at the irony I just made.
We reach the edge of the forest, from where we sneakingly made our way to the opposite direction, far from death, I didn't want to go anywhere near it, not after what I'd seen.
I was taking him to my secret spot. I've always wanted to take him there. I've never told anyone about this place. He's the first.
It's hard to describe that place in words. To make sense of the chaos‚ the people‚ the beauty‚ and the colour. To comprehend its assault on our strenuous lives, you wouldn't want to go anywhere else if you see it once!
Kane realizes the detour we made and asks, "Where are you taking me?"
"The Solar Nest", I giggled.
"The what-?"
"The.Solar.Nest. I named it."
"Hahaha, how did you come up with that silly!" He breaks out laughing.
I was annoyed by the fact that he had tears in his eyes and he continued teasing me about the name during the entire run! But I let it slide this time. I love seeing him smile, laugh and show other emotions. Most people think Kane's scary and stuck up, but there's no way anyone could think that after seeing him burst into unrestrained laughter.
"We're here!!" I stretched my arms out to show him my secret place. He was struck with awe. "Do you like it?"
"Like? No, I Love It! It's amazing!"
"What was it that you called silly again?" I smiled, proudly and of course, he had to reply with an "of course you silly!" Ughh, I stopped myself from continuing any further.
"Kane, we'll catch up on that later... because there's one thing, things* I had to tell you about, it's time you knew the truth."
Kane's face once again had that serious ''I'm Listening'' kind of look.
"This will sound crazy bu-t you have to believe me!"
"I do Alora, I do," he reassures me with a smile.
"Actually, I wanted you to kill him with no mercy."
"Then why did you"
"I couldn't! I did let you, before, twice, and it just resulted in you getting killed! I've already lost you twice, I can't do that again, not because of my greed, no!"
"What do you mean, twice?"
"This, this is the third time I'm living the same scenario, the war, the encounter with Evan, you trying to kill him and when yo-ou do, it, it's always the same, you always..."
I burst into tears. All those memories of Kane, unresponsive, draped with blood come rushing into my brain. He grabs my shoulders and pulls me into a hug as I go on weeping.
"It's alright Alora, I'm here now, so, tell me more."
"Every time I saw Evan dead, you too, died. After every kill, the ones I've seen twice, your legs would fall onto the ground. I could see you, the brightness of your eyes, gone, wrapped in a dark pile of smoke, that slowly (sniff) suffocated you to death. As the scene lightens words sprung up, "The Fate of those, already written, can't be changed, for an attempt ends up with a curse" and then, the surroundings lightened, I ran to you but you weren't there! All I could see was, ash, smeared on the ground. There was a book, lying on you, on your as-sh, I-I couldn't just. Sniff. I gathered the courage and went towards it, It was called " The Cursed Shadow," written by someone named 'Coco.' and then I knew."
