En poésie française, pour compter les syllabes d'un vers, il faut prendre en compte la règle dite des e muets. On compte le "e" lorsqu'il est placé devant une consonne et on ne le compte pas lorsqu'il est placé devant une voyelle, ou bien lorsqu'il est en fin de vers.
In french poetry, to count the syllables of a verse, one must take into account the so-called mute rule. The "e" is counted when placed in front of a consonant and not when placed in front of a vowel, or when it is at the end of verse.
