I hate when people I love get enlisted
A flash of red across my eyes, while I think why?
I have the fear of losing them
The constriction in my throat, tears burning my eyes, begging it to be a joke
Of losing the memories, or their love
I don’t want to be left with just a few small memories of times with them
The fear of them dying pressing on my lungs, making it hard to grasp breath
They’ll be gone and I’ll be praying they’re okay
Praying I won’t have to visit their grave
Anything can go wrong, I can lose them any day
In any way
I hope I will never have to put flowers at their grave
Only when their funeral comes to old age
I never want to hear the words of their death
The words of the battles they went through,
How they served their country with honor
How they died doing their duty
I could never handle the pain
