西元2300年，一個巨大的隕石撞擊了美國東岸，美國的東半部幾乎全毀。生存下來的 人們試著要恢復重建以前的生活。但是這顆隕石帶來的不只是毀滅，還帶來了某種病毒。人們接二連三的受到感染，甚至傳出吃人事件，最糟糕的是病毒傳染速度極快，連遠在東方的日本都淪陷了。

全世界科學家為了防止擴大感染，一起建造了把地球一分為二的高牆，因為海洋的污染也很嚴重。從此這個世界分為黑暗西半球，和僅存的人和動物的東半球。
