TW: Parent Abandonment, Suicide Mention, Bullying, Slight Abuse (like slapping)
“Hey nerd! What you reading?” Some kid yells at me snatching my book. “Cinderella? Pfft! The nerd thinks she will be a princess one day!” He yells to everyone in the lunch room and everyone starts laughing. He continues to mock me trying to get me to speak up. “Stop trying to act mute you freak! No wonder why your mom left you!”He yells sliding my food onto the floor.
He did not just say that. “My mom left me? Ha! That’s so rich coming from the kid whose sister killed herself because she was being tormented by her own brother!” I yell at him standing up and slapping him. The lunchroom falls silent. I look at Jason, the boy who mocked me, he was in tears. “Yeah! Go ahead cry you little crybaby! Can’t even believe you were my best friend at one point!” I continue yelling at him as he cries. I don’t even feel bad. He deserves it.
Finally a teacher separates us, dragging me to the principals office. I fall silent as I get thrown into the room. The principal stands up and slaps me. “Hello father,” I say looking down. “Did I give you permission to speak!” He yells at me. I shake my head no and continue to stare at the ground. “You have dishonored our family in more ways than one!” He yells. “Look at me when I speak to you!” He yells again grasping my chin so I have to face him. That’s when I start crying. He looks at me in disgust.
“Speak you useless child,” He demands. I breathe in getting ready to yell what I’ve thought all these years. “I’m the one who dishonored our family? You cheated on my mother! You forced her to leave me! You’ve set me into a marriage I don’t want for when I turn 18! You’re a lousy excuse for a father and are no man!” I yell at him finally showing the anger I’ve felt for years. I wipe my tears and turn away from the man who is meant to be my father. Hearing him cry as I grab my bag and walk the door.
It seems when I don’t talk people get mad but when I talk they cry. What a twisted world I live in. Or what twisted people live in a beautiful world.
