Noel Flair: leadership

Rose stood up and walked in front of every teenager, having us either tap out a beat or hum a note.
Slowly, as she went along the group, a melody began to form.
She stopped in front of me and instructed me to snap a certain rhythm, then moved on to Noel, having her hum a series of notes.
I looked around the group and could not help but smile at our diversities yet ability to form something beautiful.
Soon, the whole group was smiling as they hummed or snapped their fingers.
Grace stood up and began to dance. She flowed with the beat of the music causing us to stare at her in wonder.
Rose began to sing. Her rich, clear voice echoed around us, giving a serene feel to the dark night. Soon everyone began to sing along with the familiar pop song that seemed to dominate radio channels and TV shows.

And we’ll shine brighter, together
Grow stronger, forever
If we believe in ourselves and trust in each other
The ending won’t be that far.

The fire began to flicker, growing brighter.
Taller.
Suddenly, sparks began to leave the center of the circle and began swarming the teens.
The sparks engulfed me.
An unfelt wind lifted my hair.
My eyes strained to adjust to the sudden, overwhelming brightness.

The loud voice and white light circling Grace and Rose only joined the chaos.
The sparks grew brighter as the fire stretched way above our head.
Then, without warning, the fire collapsed, the sparks falling down with it, extinguished.
And everything went dark.
