文宗時，供佛之風熾盛，云在家修行守五戒，富貴乘風四坊知，戶戶競相請佛。

佛本無相，然世人皆愛金身，視土偶泥胚如敝屣，老僧於是令寺內眾僧只塑泥像，沙彌不解。

老僧曰：「心不誠，金身無用；心誠，泥塑亦真佛。」禪房經聲起，寶相莊嚴。

無色無相，無嗔無狂，種如是因，收如是果。

沙彌嘆：「今日方知，此真泥佛也。」

而老僧怒懟：「你剛攻擊我的村莊！？」
