每件事情的發生應該都是多面向的，在今日社會裡，由於每個人都能表示意見，新聞媒體又很便利之下，我們可以聽到各種言論的表達。但在過去，每件事情僅能靠留下來的少數史料來了解過去。是否在史料之外，還有更多的聲音是被忽略遺忘的呢？

義大利哲學家克羅齊曾言：「一切的歷史都是當代史」，這是因為當代人會用當代思想去解讀過去的事情，所以同一份史料每個時代的解讀都會因此有所不同。

回顧三國歷史中關鍵的兩場戰爭：夷陵之戰與諸葛亮北伐。劉備為了復仇，不惜一切攻打盟友；諸葛亮為了北伐，不顧蜀漢早已國窮民困。到底為何而戰？為誰而戰？就是本篇小說的創作理念。希望透過今日的角度，提供多一點思考來闡述過去那段歷史。
