The four gods of the elements finish destroying their last universe to start anew. Gola, the goddess of water, strong and graceful, focused on the rivers, streams, and oceans. Anaba, the goddess of earth, tried to build the base for the world as well as secret-hiding caves and mountains. Ahote provided warmth and the Sun, a sacred visitor. Mukki, light on his feet, created the winds, which’ll cool down the world if Ahote were to lose control as he usually does. Together they build even more for their world. Gola and Mukki forged clouds while Anaba and Ahote combined their powers to generate lava.
They have built their project until every idea was followed through. However, Ahote was unsatisfied.
“There’s something missing. There has always been something missing.” he said, “We’ve spawned over 4,000 different worlds but all were silent.”
“Ahote,” Anaba called, “Our mentor isn’t much for change and neither am I. Stick to your grounds.”
In order to satisfy Anaba, Ahote kept himself silent for 500, 000 years. It was only then did he confide his ideas to Gola and Mukki. He’s told them of how they should install a kind of movement within some of their creations, a fire that’ll keep them going. Mukki, not understanding his plans, became anxious. Did Ahote want to slowly destroy their creations from within? Gola, an advocator for constant change, decided to work with Ahote.
Anaba, kept unaware of her siblings’ plans, rested at the feet of a Cascade volcano. Mukki flew around the world, looking at their project a second time. He could barely hear the whispers of the shores and skies; he realized just how truly silent it’s always been. He searched for Ahote and Gola, only to find them at the tip of Mount Rainier. They were on the path to see Ohl, their mentor, their creator. Mukki joined them.
After greeting Ohl, their mentor asks for the whereabouts of Anaba and as to why she didn’t come along.
“We all have an idea for our project. A revolutionary concept that we’d like to see play out. As for Anaba, she doesn’t agree with us. She stayed behind.” Gola informed. Ahote followed up with an explanation and a request for Ohl’s aid while Mukki stood with apprehension, unsure where this could lead.
Ohl, convinced that a balance isn’t possible if their idea were to go through, denies them his help. They left calmly but negativity from their rejection set into their hearts.
500, 000 more years passed and their collective frustration has built. Their bodies, minds, and spirits were beyond tainted with darkness. Instead, their whole being was greatly influenced. Waves were crashing against the shores, volcanoes erupted and coated the skies with ash, the winds blew strongly along the world.
Anaba was never told of anything and was confused of their transition. Despite being loyal to her mentor, she was more loyal to her siblings. She asked for what they desired the most and all three answered her with the same request, life. Life! Life? What exactly was life? Life was a change, too large of a change to risk what they’ve work for. However, if it was going to cure her siblings, she would do it.
She marched to Mount Rainier and climbed its side. Her heart was as heavy and stiff as her element. She truly admired and respected Ohl; she would betray him for her family anyway. She was completely aware of that fact.
After reaching the top of the mountain, she followed the route to meet her mentor. Ohl is a deity of strength and stability, much like Anaba. His mind, made of stone, wasn’t going to change. She knew there was only one solution to her siblings’ suffering. She had to sacrifice Ohl and absorb his power of spirit.
Ohl, in the middle of his two-year nap, slept on his mat while his mind was beyond the world they were in. With a knife in hand, Anaba set out to kill Ohl. Her arms shook and her head turned away as she cut off his head, and removed the heart and the soles of his feet.
She sprinted to find the others. After she did, she presented them with what was cut from their mentor. They looked at her in complete horror. The usually sensible and anchored Anaba stood before them with an unhinged aura surrounding her.
“What have you done?!” Mukki cried. Unlike Mukki, Gola and Ahote understood what Anaba has done for them all and how they cannot waste Ohl’s sacrifice.
With sorrow settling in, Ahote built a fire. Anaba, still shaken from her actions, sat down and stared into the flames. Gola placed Ohl’s head, heart, and soles onto the fire. Mukki fanned the fire until only ashes were left.
Together they breathed in the smoke and exhaled into the collection of ash. Once the ash was blown away completely, a child was revealed. She was named Wanekia, goddess of spirit. She was the only one to smile that day. She giggled and looked around. There was something about this giggle, about her smile. It was all so refreshing. The atmosphere smoothed out and there wasn’t as much tension as before. Change has arrived.
As she grew, she worked with the others to build more in this world. With little knowledge she wasn’t able to work on bigger projects. However, she was able to grow red cedar trees from the ground and create a forest. Forest, a new word for them all. With Gola, she grew moss and seaweed. As she grew, her creations became more complex. With the clay provided by Anaba and Gola, Wanekia invented squirrels and wolves. She went on to make bears, rats, and birds with Mukki.
Years later, Wanekia became a full grown goddess with experience in living beings like flowers and mountain lions. She had her own idea she wanted to fulfill. People, mirrored images of her and the others, would take care of what they have made in the past two billion years. It’ll be of world of connections and reactions bouncing off of everything and everyone, she thought.
As soon as the idea hit her, she wanted to get to work right away. She settled herself down in a clear deep into the forest. After gathering enough clay to build five people, she got to work. Each person was different in some kind of way. Wanekia made sure that each were an individual rather than her other species. After building the bodies, she worked on their minds. She kept in mind that balance is a requirement, balance is a requirement, balance is a requirement. She installed both the negative and positive, the kind and deceitful, the dreams and the nightmares. After finishing that bit, she moved on to their souls. She gave each person life one at a time to avoid any errors. Before they could awake to the sky, Wanekia left the area.
From then on the gods have simply observed, wondering what kind of creations their own creations will come up with.
