I Itch to Create - Poem

I itch to remember

From the late-night summer bonfires

that send smoke signals to those of us who cannot sleep

and envelop my mind with fogs and coughings of blackness

and remind me that I am still alive

I itch to construct

From the late night preachings, rambling

typing away on keyboards until my fingertips bleed

just so that I can finally set into the right words

to describe the perfect forms I find within my soul

I itch to feel

From the bitter taste of prescriptions

that linger, like a burning in my throat

mingling into the blood droplets upon my arms

that remind I will break if I try to always stand alone

I itch to belong

From the paralyzing coffins of anxiety

that I feel forming inside of my rib cage

upon the realization that my chances for success

are finally set equal to my worries of failure

I itch to contribute

From the irrefutable desire I find within myself

to make something out of my life and my world

with a desperate hope to change the minds of my peers

and foster a notion of warmth within my generation

I itch to create

From the memories that I have far too long suppressed

to find exhilaration in the opportunities that come from every single one

and to transfer my pain, fear, loss, and negative experiences

into the creation of a world where such things do not exist
