Ferdinand didn't answer; instead, he squeezed Amira tighter and forced her towards the ground, his breath coming in short gasps. Amira tried to look up, but Ferdinand pressed her head tighter against his chest.
"You're hurting me!"
Amira soon realised her husband was hunched over her protectively. Between Ferdinand's laboured breathing and grunts, she heard another set of grunts, followed by loud thuds and a dull clinking of metal.
After the thudding stopped, Ferdinand's hold eased and his body slumped to the side. Above them stood a man, bloody, with a knife in his hand.
"Gabe!"
