Pink swirls, blue swirls,

bright lights and ironed suits,

his red skin- is it love? Is it blood? Is it simply

a reflection?

another turn, another swirl, another partner

launching me closer and closer,

and when I make it,

he asks me, lips pressed against my ear:

"Will you be my valentine?"

I deny him coldly, for he has asked every dancer in this room,

for he has bewitched me, year after year,

for he has taken my happiness from me.

His plastic smile

His outstretched hand

His love that only lasts until sundown,

gone now - swallowed up

by the swirling dresses, by the pristine suits,

by the blues and oranges and pinks and navy
