You run, tears streaming down your face. You don't know the way out of the castle but logic has no place in your grief. Over and over, you curse yourself. You don't want a strange man named Geoffrey. You want Rose. The Rose who let you live, who taught you the sword, who tried to give you her greatest gift.
Rose.
You run the back of your hand over your eyes and continue running. Not watching where you're going, you run into the solid body of a man. Falling, you grasp at your waist only to remember you don't have a weapon. The man stares down at you, his eyes hard and commanding.
His body is purely muscle. Black hair hung down his back, tied back by a leather strap. His eyes were the most unusual color you'd ever seen. Topaz. He was dressed all in black and had his hand on the silver hilt of a sword. As soon as he made eye contact with you, he nodded.
"Arthur, I presume?"

The man smiled. "I'm Geoffrey.
Once outside of the castle, in a caravan headed south, you turn to Geoffrey. "What are you doing here?"
"Ah, young Arthur. This is bigger than you imagine." He lights a pipe and smiles kindly. "Do you want to hear a story?"
No! You want to save Rose. Ignoring your thoughts, you nod affirmative.
"Once, long long ago, there were two princes. One, you're very familiar with. Kaizar. He was selfish and vindictive. He wasn't the heir and therefore was jealous of his brother. Cadegan was the exact opposite. Kind and selfless. He was the epitome of what a prince is meant to be."
As he spoke, you let his words wash over you, soothing and kind.
"In a kingdom you've most likely never heard of, a girl named Rosalyn was the most beautiful maiden. Both Cadegan and Kaizar wanted her. But whereas Cadegan fell in love, Kaizar wanted a trophy. Rose, as she was called, married Cadegan. Cadegan became the king and all was well for a bit.
"But Kaizar couldn't stand to see his brother get both the crown and the girl. Therefore, he staged a coup. By law, the crown should have gone to Rose's brother. But Kaizar is cunning as he is horrible and therefore he shamed Rose's brother, causing Kaizar to rise to the throne."
"But what about Rose's son?" you interrupted.
"The son has been missing for quite some time. Now sleep. We've a long way to go if we're to talk to Myrrdin."
"Myrrdin?"
"I'm sorry. You'd call him Merlin."
You gasp. Merlin? He was the most famed sorcerer of all time!
"Why are we going to see Merlin?"
"Call him Myrrdin. And because he's Rose's brother, of course!"
