古今中外，有關鏡子和水中倒影的都市傳說不少均與勾魂、找替身有關。

希臘神話中的美少年 自戀狂 Narcissus，便因愛上自己的倒影無法離開池邊，終憔悴至死（也有一說是他深愛著自己的孿生姐姐，姐姐死後 Narcissus 經過池塘，誤以為水中倒影是他姐姐，不忍離去終致死亡）。及後，在 Narcissus 死去的地方長出了一株水仙花。
