You know...it's a tad frightening walking into a dimly lit interrogation room which has only one table, two chairs, a single lamp on the ceiling and probably the most bizarre young man sitting at the table. His pale skin seemed to almost glow in the pitiful amount of light which reflected off of his blue eyes and black hair. He watched patiently as I sat down and turned on the recorder.
"Subject twelve twenty-one. Interviewed by Perkins. January seventeenth two-thousand eighteen...."
"Is that really the year?" the subject asked. "My, my you all are behind, aren't you?" I looked at him, trying to read his face, but getting nothing from the evil smirk he had on his face.
"You know," I began, opening the very thin file we had. "If you'd just cooperate, you could've been back to wherever you came from weeks ago." The young man huffed and flipped his hair out of his face. "You're suspicious of us?"
"Call it an occupational hazard of mine," he sneered. "Where I'm from, a little paranoia goes a long way." I flipped through the notes of those who had come before me, looking to see if any of them had gotten a name from the guy. "I'm impressed that they got enough to fill that much on me."
"Don't underestimate people, Mister Hellstrande," I admonished him. "They pick up on more than you'd realize...."
"And I pick up on even more than they could ever know," he countered, leaning forward a little. "For instance, I noticed the ring on your finger is just a tad tarnished and your finger is slightly swollen around it. I would assume that you've been married for quite a few years. The calluses on your hands indicate you worked in a trade before coming here, or perhaps you picked one up as a hobby." I sat up a little straighter, surprised at his calm tone more than the fact he was right.
