Ow!

I shouldn't have touched the cactus!

But what could I do?

Mama said everything needs love,

And love means hugs and pats.

I pat the cactus on its head,

The thorns pricked me,

But I couldn’t care,

I pat it again,

And I yelped again.

The thorns are just a defense,

I thought, the cactus just needs extra love,

I kept on patting the cactus,

Until my fingers bled tiny ruby rivers,

I shook off the pain and kept on patting it.

I grinned at her,

And I showed her my bloody hands,

I said, “Mama I loved the cactus!”

I was surprised by her reply,
