On the first day of the semester fall was at its most beautiful, the shades of falling leaves offering a beautiful palette to feast one's eyes upon. The leaves flowed towards the ground slowly, making their way down in a delicate motion.
She's grabbing her book bag tightly, the fabric feeling rough against her fingers as she looked for an open seat in the lecture hall. The last time she felt this nervous must've been when she opened her acceptance letter all those months ago, though now it seemed like a distant memory. Her palms felt sweaty- she hated when that happened but hadn't found a way to stop the nervous sweats, try as she might. 151Please respect copyright.PENANANFz8L8vHgF
Sitting down somewhere in the middle of the hall, she finally took the time to observe the people around her. Luckily, she noted, they all seemed just as nervous as her. It's no surprise, this was a new stage of life for all of them, you'd be a fool not to be nervous. Anxious smiles, uneasy fidgeting with the hems of clothes, tapping of pens people had just gotten out, the nervousness was near overflowing.
She took a deep breath. There should be nothing to worry about, it'll be fine. Of course it will. It'll be great. Good. Amazing, even. Her shaky exhale betrayed her though, revealing her true emotions. Not that anyone was paying attention to her, anyway.
She listened to the vague chatter around the room, observing some of the other students more closely now. Some looked like they were seconds away from puking, some forcing that all-too-familiar awkward smile onto their faces, some already making new friends, some chattering away easily with old ones. She frowned slightly. She'd been excited to start anew, but going to a whole new city while knowing no one there was terrifying, even though she'd never admit it.
Taking her time she traced her eyes over everyone in the room, glad to see the ones as panic-stricken as she felt, until stopping abruptly. A boy bursting in through the door, making his way in confidently. Nothing too out of the ordinary there. She stretched her neck to get a better look and there he was. Smiling. Really smiling, a wide grin, ready to be shown to whoever might look his way. Something twisted in her stomach as she clenched her fists. How could he be so care-free and happy while she was there nearly shitting herself with anxiety? In that moment, seemingly for no reason at all, she decided she hated him.
