The next morning, I wake up. It is early in the morning. Adam is still asleep beside me. His back is towards me. I run my hands on his back. I hug him from behind. I kiss his back gently.
"Good Morning, Adam", I say.
I know he is still asleep. But only in secret moments like this, I can show him affection without getting embarrassed. Since, its early morning, I decide to make breakfast. I get up, freshen up, brush my teeth and go down the stairs. Yesterday's walking sure did a number on my knee. There was light swelling around the area. I guess I am not going to the office even today.
I fry some eggs, some bacon and hot dogs. And toast some bread. I freshly squeeze orange juice for myself and brew some coffee for Adam. Just as I finish making the food, Adam comes down for breakfast. Looks like he just got up.
"Good Morning, Adam", I say cheerfully.
"Your breakfast is on the table. I'm afraid I won't be able to come to the office. There is still swelling in my knee.", I say.
"Don't think I forgot or forgave you, you little unfaithful witch."
I ignore his bad attitude. He sits and eats his food. I bring his cup of coffee and place it infront of him. He devours his food. I figure he is still hungry.
Thank heavens, I made more. I bring him more bacon and toast.
"I made orange juice too. Do you want some of that?"
"I want more coffee."
I refill his cup. I prepare lunch in an hour while he is getting ready.
I pack his food. He come down with his briefcase and his tie in hand.
He stands infront of me. I know what he wants. But, I still can't resist asking.
"What do you want, Adam?"
"Tie", he says and arrogantly opens his palm and shows me his tie.
Ah.. I fold my arms. I raise my brows.
"You have to be more specific than that.", I say.
"Don't you understand? Are you stupid?"
"You want to know what is stupid- a grown man not able to wear a tie.", I retort.
"Don't raise my temper."
"Fine. Give me the tie, so I can strangle you with it."
"Aishwarya! .", he growls.
After helping him with his tie, I place my hands on his chest. I look up at him. He is staring at me.
"Adam, you must believe me, I have not been unfaithful to you. I did not cheat on you.", I look up at his, imploring him to believe me.
"Did you not lie to me yesterday, about meeting Claire but you went and met Liam instead..?"
"Well, yes. I am sorry for that. But, I did have my reasons as to why I did that."
"What reasons..?"
"I can't tell you that. I am sorry. But, you must believe me husband."
"You are guilty. Your lies prove your misdeed. But don't worry, after today, we won't be having any more problems. Everything will get back to the way it was.", he says in a sinister manner and kisses my forehead.
"What are you going to do? Adam. Stop this stupid idea of revenge. Please. It is only going to distance us more."
He grabs my waist and pulls me closer.
"Yesterday, I remember you challenging me, my fierce kitten. Backing out so soon? Huh?", he says nibbling my jaw gently.
I try to push him away from me. But he holds my hands behind my back.
"Wear something pretty tonight. Let us go out for dinner. It is a date, my darling. My delicate butterfly.", he whispers in my ear and kisses my lips.
I moan and lean into his kiss. We kiss for sometime. I reluctantly step out from his embrace.
"Adam, you are getting late."
He takes his leave.
That evening, I take a shower. It is almost time for Adam to come home. I wear my new lacy lingerie. I wear my panties.
I wear my bra, but these darn hooks.. ugh... they are slipping. As I am struggling with my bra, I look into the mirror and see my husband standing behind me, with a champaigne bottle and two glasses in his hands. He comes into the room and sets them aside on the table.
"Oh..", I say. I look at the bed to wear something that would cover my almost-nude body. But I feel him coming behind me. I hurriedly wear my negligee and just as I am tying the sash at my waist, he wraps his arms around me from behind.
He pushes my hair away from my nech. I arch myself against him. He seductively kisses my neck. He pushes the robe out of the way and secures the hooks of my bra.
"You know, I think I would have much more fun, removing them.", he comments and kisses the back of my neck. I ignore his remark.
"Adam... how was your day?", I say closing eyes and enjoying my husband's attention.
"I got promoted, my darling.", he says in between kisses. His hands are wrapped around my waist.
"Congratulations husband. That is wonderful news.", I reply sincerely.
"Oh, that is not all..", he says with a devilish glint in his eyes.
"What is it?", I ask, sensing something wrong already.
" Liam is out of a job.", he tells me with a smile like that of a chesire cat.
"What did you do, Adam?", I ask.
He releases me. Turns around and opens the champaigne bottle. He pours the champaigne in two fancy champaigne glasses and offers me one.
Unnerved, I take it.
"Well, Chris found out about the money that was being embezzeled. I had to save my skin. I did what I had to do. Anyways, he deserved it. You deserved it. Now, you can't go running after a man who is out of a job now, darling. Can you? Now be a good little wife, and drink to your husband's success and your lover's downfall."
"You are a cruel monster.", I manage to gasp out.
Poor innocent Liam and poor Claire. Their relationship would be in ruins. They would be heartbroken right now. I need to be there for my close friends.
"Maybe. My dear.", he laughs cruelly.
" I can't be here. ", I say. Instead of wearing the intended strapless thigh-high slit maroon cocktail dress for our date night, I put the champaigne glass on the table and go to my closet and take out my jeans and a t-shirt.
"What are you doing?", he asks in a calm steely voice.
" My friends need me right now. So, move out of the way Adam."
"You are my wife. I want you here. Take the glass and drink to my success."
I ignore him and slip up my jeans. I wear my t-shirt and walk towards the door.
"AISHWARYA! Don't you dare disobey me!!", his voice is like thunder that booms across the room.
Just then my phone rings. I pick it up.
Its Claire. She is sobbing.
"Aish. Something unfair has happened to Liam. Liam was fired today. They say he has been embezzling money out of the company. I know my Liam won't do this. What would happen to us? I love him Aish. I love him. I can't see him like this. He is in depression. He won't talk to me or answer my calls. I am so scared."
"I believe you Claire. I am on my way to see you. I will make sure you are okay. We will make sure the real crook is caught.", I speak the last words looking at Adam.
He is staring at me.
"I am leaving. Claire needs me."
"I NEED YOU DAMMIT!!"
"Well, a villain like you doesn't need anybody. I am sure you can do well enough on your own. You are a coward and the real cheat here is you.", I say agrily.
By the time I finish my tirade, he charges at me like a bull. I have no time to escape.
He pulls me forward by my shirt. And throws me on the bed. He proceeds to forcefully remove my clothes.
"Adam, you swine. Stop it. You villainous evil man. Ahh.", I scream at him.
"You are wearing the dress and going to come to dinner with me in this fancy little restaurant. You are my wife. MINE. You will be by my side, celebrating my success, just like how a wife should do with her husband. You better wear this dress, or I will dress you up like one would do to a doll and I will make sure it is unpleasant.", he says stonily. By the time, he is finished, I am in my bra and panties.
I do not want to enrage him further. His bi-polar disorder is at full swing now. I do as I am told. I wear the dress and do my hair. All this while he is watching me. I am done getting ready. I take a deep breath. I paste a fake smile on my face. But my eyes are filled with unshed tears. I look at myself in the mirror. I look ravishing. But, I do not feel in a mood of celebration. He is watching my reflection in the mirror. His eyes glaze over with desire and passion. Our eyes meet in the mirror. My watery brown eyes meet his clear gray ones. He hardens his fist and looks away.
He picks up my champaigne glass and forces it into my hand.
"You look beautiful. Now, drink", he says
"You are asking too much of me... husband. Even you can't be that cruel."
"I am a villain, a coward and a cheat as you said, my sweet. I am just living up to the mark you set for me.", he presses on relentlessly.
I give up. It is no use arguing with him. I take a sip from the glass. I let out a huge sob. And the tears that I worked so hard to keep at bay fall. His eyes looks stricken. He slaps the glass away from my hand. It falls on the ground and breaks and the liquid spills out. He pushes me onto the bed. He is on top of me. I turn my face away from him.
"Damn you aishwarya. Don't cry, my wife. Don't cry, my darling. Look at me, my flower. Please, look at me."
I don't listen. I keep my face away from him.
He forcefully pushes my face to meet his. I meet his face blankly, with no expression. I am numb.
"Darling, please. Don't look at me like that. Don't look at me without any feeling or with indifference. Show you your hate. Show me your anger but not nothing.", he pleads.
" You are the only sunshine in my life. I can't bear to let you go. I am a monster. I am a villain. I am a coward. I am a cheat. I am a sick man, sweetheart. But, I only need your love to heal me. Give me anything, please don't give me nothing."
I can't help it. Adam is tortured. His bi-polar disorder is getting worse. He is in pain mentally. My tears fall, but this time it's for my husband. For the pain he is living with everyday. For all the storms he is facing alone, with no one to turn to.
He sees my tears. He leans down and kisses away my tears.
"I am sorry for making you cry. I am a disease darling. No one can fix me. No one can love me.", he says brokenly. His eyes fill with tears. They fall on my cheek.
My heart breaks for him.
I cradle his head in my arms.
"Shh... don't cry. My darling. Please don't cry. Forgive me for saying those hurtful things to you, husband. I am sorry. You mean everything to me. I love you.", I say.
I do love this man. His demons, his anger, his cruelty, his arrogance.
Every. Single. Flaw.
I mentally make a vow to myself. That I will stay by his side forever and that together we will deal with his mental disability.
His sobs quite down. He looks at me.
"I love you too my moonlight. My wife, my love. My heart belongs to you. Please don't leave me.", he says brokenly. We stay in each other's arms for a long time and eventually go to sleep that way.
