這裡的欲望很廣義，就是人想要什麼的心理。想要達成某件事、奢望幸福、渴求財富、期待成長，這些都只是欲望的一部分。人的慾望多多種，每人所具有的欲望不盡相同卻又不會太過離奇。（長生不死這種的你怎樣努力也達不到，只是不會為之採取行動努力的空想），為了滿足欲望，有些人獨力苦幹而有些人群聚起來累積彼此的資源實行目標。
因此目標的秘密來自於人心底的欲望。沒有欲望就不會需要目標，可死而後已。
