Ballistic Writing - Silent Dubiety

You know that ringing in your ears?

It isn’t silence.

It’s a cause of listening to music to loud

Or surrounding ourselves with crowds

Or going to clubs or somewhere busy

‘Cause if we take a minute to ourselves

We drown.

Silence is scary, isn’t it?

That’s why we’ve all developed a ringing in our ears trying to avoid it.

Soon

We’ll be a society that,

In an attempt to drown out anxiety

With noise,

Will become deaf to anything relevant.

We poise.

Slowly, we’ll stop listening…

‘Cause problems keep whispering.

And if we only keep the noise on

Maybe we won’t hear them.

We don’t let ourselves pause anymore.

If we talk, we don’t stop,

We don’t let the conversation drop.

Silence is awkward and awkward is bad

And bad isn’t something I wanna focus on.

So we fumble and mumble like infants.

In all actuality, are we any different?

We blabber.

It’s our distraction…

And only for a moment’s satisfaction...

And have you noticed

That

People talk louder when they’re defending themselves.

So are we all defending ourselves 24/7?

Because people are always talking loud.

Inside voices must not be allowed,

Because the moment we quiet down

We hear it.

The whisper.

The lull of dubiety.

A creeping anxiety.

Shhh.

Hear that ringing?
