"Let's go for a walk,"
Nancy says, grinning. Again, those perfectly white teeth can catch you off guard sometimes.
"Technically, we're already on a walk." I correct. "We're walking back home from the Williams' house."
Streetlights flicker on one by one, like somebody’s flipping switches down the block. The air still holds the heat from the day, and everything smells like hot concrete and somebody’s fryer grease rolling out of a window.
"Anyways..." Nancy started. "Diana says that we should come over to their house on Saturday, tomorrow, since that's the only day her family isn't busy."
"That sounds fun," I nod, waiting for Nancy to get to the point.
"But, I have dance practice..." Nancy said, blinking rapidly. "So you'd have to go on your own. What fun character development for you, Jocelyn!"
Nancy nudged me in the elbow. I would have liked for Nancy to come with me to the Williams' house, but it would be rude to just all of a sudden bail on Diana when we had said that we'd come over.
"Okay," I agreed, even though that meant accepting Nancy's newest 'character development' adventure.
Boy, am I so done for.
