every monster from vampires to werewolves, from faes to sirens, young and old- even ancient to unborn, every monster of every breed had their eyes glued to a television, or an ear close to the radio.
all waiting for one bit of news, which could change monster history as they know it. august eighth, nine pm is when they will finally get the results they were waiting decades for.
the news on whether they will now have the same rights as a human- which means words in on votes, being able to bring their children to the park during the sunlight, and being able to receive education with humans.
some families had the car already packed, while others didn't have much belief and didn't want to risk bringing their hopes up.

"does your parents not want to be with you when we get the news?" a mother walked in, a full trash bag sitting on her waist.

kane threw the red blanket off himself and got up, "i'll take that out, moma" he said, taking the metal caged bin off the woman before a word of protest could even form.
"i'll be back in a second, kibi," he said, leaving the front door open as he emptied the bin.
"hurry up! it's starting!" he heard coming from the sitting room, causing him to run inside, almost splitting his head open on the way.
he jumped back onto the three-seater couch and curled into his boyfriend, his parents sitting on the love couch, holding eachothers hands in anticipation.
"and the results are in and counted. from this day on," the vampire reporter stated slowly, drawing each word out to build suspense.
"monsters are on an equal level as human blood," he said with excitement, throwing the papers up- he seemed equally as shocked about the news, like he also didn't know what the outcome was.
popcorn was thrown around the room and screams filled the previously tense atmosphere. "we did it!" kane's father said, twirling his wife around.
"oh god," the mother said while grounding herself. "we didn't pack for this, we need to do that now!" she said. the adult nekomata dragged her husband out of the living room and upstairs, their hard footsteps echoing the house.
"hold on, my mother is calling me," he said with a roll of his eyes.
"hey mother," he answered the call and put the phone near his ears, kane tried not to listen in on the conversation, but couldn't help hearing it since the person on the other line was practically screaming into a silent room, and the yokai has great hearing as it is.
kane tried to block out most words, but registered some words that was said through the phone. disgusting , separate , staying. he just kept his head down and ran his arm up and down his boyfriend's thigh.
"yes ma'am, i'll be there in twenty minutes," he said, putting the phone down on the glass table in front of the two.
"she's furious," was the first thing he said. "little does she know she has a son who's dating a male, but an nekomata male at that" he laughed, finding some humour in it.
"i'll see you when we move, though!" takibi said with excitement clearly in his voice. kane knew he had to break the news.
"kibi, i don't think you'll be moving, not out of this region at least," he said slowly so the other teenager could comprehend it.
"what?" the other asked, clearly confused and not caught up. "why not?" he looked and kane like he grew a second head.
"think about it," he said in a calming tone. "you're parents don't agree with the new law, they are still very old fashioned, do you really think they will let their children grow up in a place full of humans?"
it seemed like it finally hit the hopeful teenager. "you're... you're right," he said, his shoulders lowered and a crack in his voice.
"we are still in the same time zone, we can call and video chat on our way to and from school every day. i can take weekend trips to here as well," kane tried to comfort but knew only time can help this.
"i should be getting home," he said, furiously wiping his eyes. "bye mrs. and mr. ota," he called up to them and opened the front door.
"i will visit you before we" he hesitated to say the last word.
