I know Penana is designed with stories in mind but I've so far only published poetry, publishing stories instead via the contest feature. Poetry and creative nonfiction are my preferred genres because I have a bad habit of abandoning stories in the middle and not following plot structures and just generally I don't know what I'm doing unless I have a prompt or it's fanfiction, if there's some kind of guardrail of some sort.
What about you all? Just because we're LGBT+ writers doesn't mean we're all the same sort of writer! Why do you write? Do you write about LGBT characters or themes? I sometimes do.
@Felix Flax, I used to be able to write all sorts of Fan-fiction. I'd write & post so many things, except I'd start one project, and unless it was a Oneshot, I'd start another one.
Ever since moving into my apartment to escape the monster I used to live with, the failing job hunt, and the absolute prisons that once great sites for posting Fan-fiction have become, I can't write to save my own sense of worth.
And yes, I do tend to write LGBT+ stories; Considering my main character - A LOT of inspiration for whom comes from me myself - is the L in LGBT....
@Alysa, Congrats on escaping the monster, sorry about the job hunt (I was stuck there for 11 months and escaped by re-enrolling in university to qualify for a paid internship, that’s how bad the job market is) and archiveofourown still can be great - once I turned off guest comments the spam evaporated - as can tumblr, which has a new community feature fanfic authors tend to congregate in. I know what it’s like to be in writing slumps though, and I’m sorry you’ve found yourself in one
@Felix Flax, please PM me? And I'll send you links to franchises I've been collecting on DVD that I would tend to write Fan-fiction crossovers between.
I tend to write some LGBTQ+ books and stories. That is what I mostly do, but if I write a book that is straight, I normally put some kind of LGBTQ+ in it. :)
