For all my writing, I don't actually get out there and read a whole lot anymore, and I think it's partially because I don't know where to start. So, I'd like to dedicate this section to recommendations for completed or published works from and YA author! I'll begin...

My recommendation is Looking for Alaska, by John Green; it's the novel that challenged me to get into the YA genre in the first place! LFA was written in 2007 but didn't gain it's massive popularity until 2012. The story follows an innocent and awkward teen on his journey to find a "Great Perhaps" at a boarding school in southern Alabama. He meets a rambunctious girl named Alaska with whomever he immediately falls in love, but cannot be with due to a number of different circumstances. The novel is about freedom, purpose, mortality, and the plight of our human quest for love and acceptance. I reccomend it with a 10/10!

I'd recommend Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs.
The story follows a teenage boy who goes to Wales in search of clues about his Grandfather after the man's horrific death. On a Welsh island, he finds a strange orphanage full of children with strange powers and finds that there may be good reason that the children were quarantined on the island.
The novel does a wonderful job of integrating real vintage photographs into the story and is good book for anyone interested in a thrilling fantasy.

I haven't actually been doing a ton of reading lately, things have been kinda crazy. The last young adult book I read was probably the Maze Runner... I honestly believe that it was the worst book I've ever read in my life. Like, everything wrong with YA in one book.

That being said, ever read a Series of Unfortunate Events? A classic, but I revisited it a couple weeks ago and it's really just incredible

Has anyone read It's Kind of a Funny Story? I loved that book growing up and still do to this day. It's a great young-adult book about mental illness and actually, to the degree of popular fiction, represents what a psych ward is actually like. Taught me a lot about my own illness too.

Oh, and Into the Wild. The story of Chris McCandless who died tragically in the Alaskan Wilds after backpacking and wandering across america for some odd years.

I'm pretty sure I have many to recommend but my all time favourite(s) would be Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell and Charlotte Street by Danny Wallace!

For Fangirl, I simply just love the author's creative ways of name picking for the main characters (Cath and Wren = Catherine - they're actually twins so that's a really unique way to name them, in my opinion). I love the art, awesome characters, plot and the fact that there's a whole world of fanfiction and fandoms in it . It's relatable, not to mention it's not your typical average young adult romance, I would say but that's what makes it more appealing and one of the reasons why I love that book :D

For Charlotte Street, it's a really funny read with the author's British humour and sarcasm, it'll make you LOL for real - I know I did! It sorta has a stalking concept but it's only because he wants to return the mysterious girl's disposable camera. But the story goes on for the search of her, and in return he began to realize some things about his life and how he should have long gotten over his ex girlfriend who dumped him for another guy. In a way, he kinda owes it to the mysterious girl for it all.
Despite the word 'stalking', it's actually more than that with a touch of Coincidence, Fate and the 'What If' sorta element. It's a really entertaining literature to read :D
