Try not to use a combination of a period, a question, or an exclamination mark. even if there is a final quote mark.   They each set a different tone.    Also, if you use too many exclamation marks, they minimize the effect of each other.  They will start feeling like periods eventually.  I don't think that happened so far.  Just a note. The tone can and does come out in your word choices.  You do a good job with your word choices to set the tone.     

below!".   I don't think this needs the final period because the sentence is incomplete, because it starts with (...)

Words which reflect a high education level are fine if the speaker normally talks that way.   

I know the word, diminutive, but I polled several friends and none of them knew it.   The reading level of the average SciFi reader is 8.1.
