How long did it take you to come up with these—? I think adding slang/verbal ticks definitely addsmore to a character. As for accents and stuff, I also get scared about those things; research is usually the only option lol
Honestly, it was an ongoing process XD My sis and I came up with about half of them on shift, the other half I added over time as I got new ideas. I had to do some research into the roots of Cockney and Jive to understand how slangs end up forming, but turns out it's just completely bonkers :P
@The Yobanashi Girouette, i feel like if we didn’t know the slang meanings, we’d be VERY confused. Reading the sample convo you put kinda made it seem like the characters who were talking were a bit high XD *I realize that sounds kinda harsh, so just know that it wasn’t a jab at you or anything. It’s kinda just that the slang does sound a little wild lol*
@The Yobanashi Girouette, Hm… I mean, if the slang is complex to the point where you think subtitles/translations would be needed, then maybe a bit of simplification would be a good option.
@Cheeto, Yeah, fair enough. I'm hoping to choose words that carry the same kinda feeling, even if they make no bit of sense logically. Like how "that steals my shoes" still gives you an idea of what he's saying (in the vein of "that grinds my gears").
@The Yobanashi Girouette, I don't think all of them are bad, but some of them just sounded kinda unclear, or maybe it's just that the slang is used all one after the other.
Then again, it could be that even our world's slang doesn't make sense to me sometimes, so I might just be unable to decipher this slang.
@Cheeto, Thanks for the feedback, I think you're right; too much slang at once makes it hard to understand. Once I start writing the characters I'll try to even things up to preserve the overall meaning (^-^)d
"Your sympathy card is in the mail" is honestly such a good line, slang or not. I wanna steal it, but I'm gonna resist the urge to XD.
(Same with "say hi to my grandma." It's funnier when you know the actual meaning of the slang; it's just so dark lmao.)

Makes me wonder if I'll need subtitles in my book for whenever these characters speak :P
They still sound heckin' high tho :P
