I had different ideas on where the story was heading to but if you read in between the lines, you can guess that he was indeed cheating on his wife during that time thanks to the author describing a 'spicy fruit,' scent on him (perfume) when they hugged. I won't reveal much but the rest is up to the reader to decide. The story is really a he said and she said story.
