The world is a diverse place, and language is part of culture. You may not visit a foreign country, but people from other countries may visit where you live. I don't agree it should be mandatory, because for some it's not easy to learn a new language. I took Spanish in high school but due to a speech impediment could never pronounce many of the words correctly

Well, i don't like that its mandatory wherever you go, but learning a new language can be very beneficial. Since there is a growing population of people who speak foreign languages, when you go to work, you need some way to talk to them. And if you are a person who wants to travel to different countries during there life, they may need to communicate with the people who do not speak english.

Agreed, I can't understand why my classmates want to take French class still after the first year of high school. However I want to learn Portuguese but that's so i have an easier time communicating with my Portuguese side of the family, especially my Avo (grandma).
