Be careful with being too specific with pop culture references (Simpsons, a Nicki Minaj wig), as they may pull readers out of the story: since a lot of the rest of your writing is a little less explicit, it's quite a change of style.

That said, I like the pacing here: a calm, quiet, chapter thinking about the past. Good break.
