@zahhh_,  I would start on an issue or story plot change. Give a bit less emotion and more of a drama part to it. Maybe a little conflict between them after lies are told. That could spike the reader's interest more and keep them on edge about what might happen next.  If not conflict, bring in a third character to maybe get in between them. Test it out and see if you like it. If you need an example of that kind of stuff, Pm me and i'll send you one.
