This was an excellent story! I really enjoyed your approach. To be honest, this is very similar to the direction I would have taken were I to be writing an entry for this contest. Fantastic job!
The only critiques I would mention would be that there were some missing words in a few of the sentences and there were a handful of other sentences that I had a little difficulty understanding. This, sadly, caused me to have trouble following the last part of the story. Nothing too major, however. Could be fixed easily with just a little more proofreading.
Overall, though, great job. I loved the imagery and the tale of the rock's first story. It was a fascinating tale and really stuck to the prompt. A very solid entry. :)
@a.t.e, I feel that if you're willing to take the time and energy to write an entry for one of my contests, then the least I can do is give some feedback. I know how frustrating it is to spend hours (maybe even days) writing something just for it to sit with no interaction from anyone. How is someone supposed to know what's good or bad about their work if no one is willing to say anything? I also enjoy the engagement with other writers, and I feel these contests are a great way for us to get to know each other better. :)
@Jay Ellis, Oh wow, yes. It is frustrating, I am my own editor (typically) when it comes to my stories so it’s a lot if re-reading for me haha But definitely!
I didn’t think too much when writing this, it was more of a spontaneous venture lead by the next word written down. I had a lot of fun with this :)) Hope you enjoy my lil’quick story~!
