其一古代十里紅妝尤其是女子的嫁妝常會有各式各樣的東西～代表娘家人對她的重視，古代還有一個寓意是可以不依靠夫家，因此實際上會看到各式各樣的東西，能帶的用品都放在裡面，多多益善！
其二除了一些吉祥與祝福寓意之外（如延年、健康等等），古代的醫療資源與環境較沒有這麼完善，因此有些珍貴的藥材難以取得或是價值連城。除了實用性高之外，保值性也高～賣錢、送禮什麼的用途多多！
且有些珍貴的藥材只有經濟較好或地位較高的門第可以有途徑取得，因此也可以作為一個象徵～
