I like this, and you have points in it, things that sometimes people can't see, but it makes sense to me. Maybe it's just because i get what your trying to say, I dunno. I like this though
Sorry, but this degeneracy had to be corrected. I could not
let this past me.
First of
all you state that Muslims are being blamed as "terrorists". Sadly,
this is not happening. As an everyday American citizen, I know several Muslim
people, and unsurprisingly, none of them are discriminated against because of
their religion. Although people do make jokes about Muslim stereotypes (as is
done fittingly with all other stereotypes), "Islamophobia" is a
purely imaginary thing. There is simply no discrimination.
Secondly
you make the statement, "... why are not all Christians bad because of the
Crusades?" If you know anything about the Crusades, you can see that they
were:
A.) A
response to Muslim conquest
B.) An
attempt to liberate and protect fellow Christians.
Also you
state, "Are all white men racist because they formed the KKK?",
completely disregarding the fact that white men played the biggest role in
stabilizing racial tensions and decimating the KKK.
Through
all of these examples, whether intentional or not, you draw a correlation
between many groups and actions. However these are completely invalid
correlations.
White men
are not a group in the same way Muslims are. German people are not a group in
the same way that Muslims are. White men do not have a common agenda. German
people do not have a common agenda. By lumping all these individuals together
and giving them a common identity, you are, in fact, just as the bad as the
"haters" you have envisioned in your mind.
And sorry
to break it to you, but the only way to stop "bullying" is toraise
people above it. Inflicting harm upon your own body is not "cool",
neither is it "brave". No one should idolize a moping victim. Because
whenever you glorify this type of behavior and tell people that it is acceptable,
you give them a victim's identity. Instead of fighting and becoming stronger,
they sink into victimization. Ultimately, whatever response you take, it is by
your hand and mind alone. And today, there's such an stigma against bullying in today's culture, it is a nearly extinct issue. As a teenager in 2015, I can personally confirm this. Being rejected or being lonely is not the same as being bullied. Being rejected, being the kid who sits at lunch by himself, is not being bullied. You could go up to talk, and there are plenty of accepting people in every school who would let you sit with them. (This is just an example.) It is your own decision to stay lonely. There isn't a wide conspiracy of bullying that dominates our culture. Sure, people may say somethings on the Internet, but honestly, if that's what you're getting depressed over, that's kind of shameful. And people, who are in perfect mental condition, who "learn slower" are a problem. If you choose not to study, not to learn, that is your decision. It is in your control. Never should they be told it's okay.
Additionally, there should be society should treat people who are "not normal" differently. Because if everyone was treated the same, would that not erase individuality, and therefore defeat the whole purpose of being different? If different is normal, then what's the point in being different?
That is if you treat "society" as a conspiracy.You can't blame problems on "society". Society is treated as a punching-bag concept. You generally say "Society needs to change!" and "Society is hostile towards people who are different!" But what is society? Society is just the people, and people do not generally gather together and plot to discriminate against colored people and dunk mentally disabled children into toilets. In conclusion, if there were a dislike button for your letter to Nobody, I would click it. Save this stuff for Tumblr.
whoever you are, this is a letter to nobody. It is her opinion, EVERYONE is entitled to one and SHOULD NOT be judged for what they think. If you don't like it, there is a simple solution, if you read it keep your mouth shut. IT DOESN'T AFFECT YOU! You are NOT the author. I respect your opinion but DO NOT put my friend down for her's. Good day.
@ElizabethBeckersomeone's salty. It's called
free speech m8. And of course you should be judged for you opinion. If you choose
to express your expression on the Internet, you leave it open to critique. I
have never made any references to your friend. I just said that the
anti-bullying movement was beat to death a long time ago. Is it wrong to point
out the flaws in someone's views? Is it wrong to disagree with someone?
What do you want next? Trigger warnings? Go back to Tumblr
First of all, I would like to say that my writing is simply not for everyone, and that you are entitled to your opinion, as I am to mine. However, I would like to make my comments on the things you have written, since you took the time to respond. First of all Penana is a writing site for all sort of writers, some of whose personal beliefs and opinions you may not agree to. However, I have the write to post what I wish, and no amount of rude comments will change that. If there was a dislike button and you were to click it, I would not lose a second of sleep over it. Next, so since their aren't those who assumes all Muslims are terrorist, why do I hear such things frequently, from both members of my family, online, and in my community? Why is it that there was a place where a man refused to serve a Muslim woman wearing a hijab, as well as calling her a terrorist? You may not see the discrimination, but in some places it does exist. Secondly, I just used the example of the Crusades and the KKK as purely examples, and like most things do not apply to all situations. I have known people who were in the KKK. Next, my grouping things together as I do was to prove a point, one that you obviously missed. Have you ever dealt with depression? Have you ever had t go to the principal or whatever the head of your school is multiple times over sexual harrassment? Have you seen a group of football players hit and terrorize a small boy they dubbed a geek while the teacher watched yet did nothing? Have you watched as a group of teenagers mocked a girl with cerebral palsy? Because I have, and the face of life is that bullying is very much alive in society today. It may not be a common thing where you live, or maybe you just turn a blind eye to it, I don't know, but bullying is alive, and I have been bullied because I didn't fit in with the general idea of what society calls norm, or to word it better, what was called the norm in middle and high school in the southern United States. You are right that being rejected isn't bullying, but verbally and physically abusing other students is, and I have seen it happen. And if people are getting upset over bullying over the internet, it is because cyberbullying is a huge issue, and for those with depression, mental disorders, physical disabilities and other things, the effect of cyberbullying begins to build up. Some people learn slower, not because they don't study, but because it takes them a bit longer to grasp the material, or a teacher who is inadequate at their job is teaching the course, and yes that does happen, because I've had teachers who made no attempt to teach the material in the curriculum. Also, those students with dsylexia or one of many types of learning disabilities do learn at a slower pace than their peers at times and that is no fault of their own. And people who self harm aren't doing it to be cool or brave, they are doing it because it's the only way they know to release the pent up emotions, stress, and other such things. It's part of a mental condition, usually accompanying one or more mental disorders. No, people who aren't "normal" shouldn't be treated as differently as society does. I shouldn't have had to spend years sticking up for a family member younger than myself who has mental and physical disabilities. A girl with cerebral palsy shouldn't be treated like a freak or mocked. A boy with autism shouldn't be called a retard, those with birth defects shouldn't be ridiculed. They shouldn't be treated as if they have no place in society. Society can be broken into subgroupings, yes, and yes there are group of people who come together against different groups and plot against them. Look at the KKK which is still alive and active. Society itself isn't to blame but rather the large majority of people which make up society, while those who disagree are most often pushed to the outside of society. Society does need to change, and for the better, but will it? That's unlikely. So in conclusion, thank you for taking the time to give your opinion, and I will respect that, because everyone is entitled to their own opinion, and this writing reflects a small part of mine. If you don't agree with what is written, that is fine. As for save it for Tumblr, well I could post this there if I wanted, but I chose to write it here, for this contest. I have the right to do as such, since in no ways does it violate any of Penanas rules and standards. If you don't like what I'm writing, may I make a simple suggestion? Why don't you go read something written by someone else instead? I won't change my writing for anyone, and if you don't like it, find a door and don't let it hit you on the back on the way out. I'll even hold it open for you.
@Adolf Hitler, your opinion is respected but to tell someone to go back to Tumblr when thry have as much right here as you is rude. And you did make a reference to me by stating I was just as bad as the haters. This is a place for writers, not for someone to express themself rudely, when we have w much a right to put our opinions on here as on tumblr
@roseofnoonvale,does one documented occasion mean the whole population of the United States hates Muslims? I've heard of a boy suspended from school for wearing a banana suit. Does that make everyone suddenly "banana-phobic"? There's yet another double standard you set. Because once one American refuses to service a Muslim, you say America is "Islamophobic", but when a few Muslims commit acts of terror, we shouldn't judge them collectively. And about these comments from "friends, family, and online": Take anything on the Internet with a grain of salt. If someone says "Hitler did nothing wrong." on the Internet, do you truly believe that he is a Neo-Nazi, anti-Semitic fascist? Probably not. He's just trying to bait. Honestly is it true racism, or is it just jokes? If you see UnexpectedJihad vines, are they being "Islamophobic"? Or just funny? Comments are not racism. Racism is segregation and slavery, not offensive jokes or bait comments. Racism was a horse beat to death a long time ago. There is no systematic racism today. Period. And to reiterate: Different people will always be treated differently. There is nothing you can do to stop this. Of course if you are different you will be treated differently. Is it wrong to call a mentally disabled person a "retard" in a derogatory manner? Yes. However, how can you stop this? Ban words like this? This idea that all people should be treated equally absolutely destroys individualism. You are an individual, and as an individual, you will be treated differently from other individuals. Not everyone is beautiful. Not everyone is intelligent. And if you treat everyone as if they are equal, you get an apathetic bunch of people,who retweet those posts that about how cancer patients are "beautiful", to feel good about themselves. If you have cerebral palsy, you are not a varsity basketball player. If you are a Mathlete, you are not a varsity football captain. And to insist that others treat you the same as one is absurd. If you are mentally ill, you will not be very popular because people generally follow certain stereotypes and you will never fit into that role. The best thing you can do is to rise above it. Make yourself a stronger person and embrace individualism. Because people are different. So they should be treated differently.
@Adolf Hitler,obviously you missed part of what i was trying to say, but we all interpret things differently. Sterotypes....i hate those damn pointless things. I never said the whole population, but there are parts which it refers to. I never said all Americans, or the whole world or anything else. Im writing based on parts of the world as i see thwm, the parts i dont like or dont agree with. I view things differently than you and this is written as part of what i viewed. I nevet stated a whole society or poulation hates the Muslim cpmmunity it was in reference to those that do. The letter refrences certain situations i felt the need to address,for it would be almost impossible to write and discuss every option, every side of each view, and make it so every single person is satisfied and in agreement with, in fact it would be impossible. Yes there is a point to individualism, but when some treat others in ways that shpuld be completely unacceptable that is the issue I am refering to. I could go on, but this is a writing contest, not a debate contest, and im sure few people wish to bother to read these things. And yes, there may be a lot worse out there, and im sure im not coming off as the nicest person at the moment
let this past me.
