Additional Chapter Context: Regardless
of the reasons for its initial existence, any powerful cultural hatred
is something that doesn't fade away easily, if ever one allows it to at
all. Many are familiar with the past experience of blatant racism and
some sexism; it takes a very long time for these mannerisms to disappear
with effort. The Unity have hated specific types of men for
the longest time given their history, including Lumina, and so by proxy,
Reed has shared in this deep hatred as well. However, the more times
that seems to pass, less energy is fed into this feedback loop by Reed,
as apparent in this chapter and subsequent moments later on. It takes a
lot of maturity to drop those seeds of fury, especially when they have
been held onto for such a long time. As Reed gradually dilutes away his
hatred of heathens, Lumina may have no choice but to follow suit in the
same behavioral change, and by extension, her sisters, their friends,
and so on. It is always a choice though; no matter the reason or
absurdity behind those feelings.
