I'm not sure how I feel about this new development in their relationship, but I'm usually pretty skeptic about romantic relationships, anyway. But seriously, though, I love your writing style. It's gorgeous.
I've been meaning to ask: Will the reason why Vera can't speak be in future chapters? (Or did I miss something?)

Oh, this development will be significant preeeetty soon... and yeah it was mentioned before, probably could've been clearer: when V tried to kill herself, jumping off the balcony, she landed on a little pointy rock that punctured the front of her throat. That's where Harp's comment comes from, the "...a half an inch to either side and you'd've been dead" (or something similar), it's in reference to the carotid artery and the jugular vein, on either side of the throat, and that if either of them had been punctured Vera'd have bled out in under a minute.
