Being asexual does not really resort to real problems. Do you get a lower salary because you told your boss you're asexual? Do you get turned away in hospitals because your and your partner are not legal? Do you get stopped to vote? Do you get hanged for being asexual like gay/lesbian? Do you get lynched or mobbed like other LGBTs? Do you get refused for donating blood because you're asexual?
Is the "discrimination" you're talking about... people just telling you "you'll find someone someday." Oh my god. Such discrimination.
Don't go around acting like you're being discriminated against when you know nothing of discrimination. You literally lose nothing as an asexual. Like okay you don't want to have sex? Okay. Are people gonna forcibly arrange you into a marriage?
It's lovely to see someone opening up about these issues on Penana. While I can in no way completely relate to your situation, your honesty is refreshing and I got to learn a lot. Thanks for writing this piece!
I don't go by those sexual terms, but my libido itself is pretty much in the negatives. Personally, the thought of participating in such activities is a bit repulsive. Same with Romance, which is weird since half the stories I've been requested to review are Romances X'D. The most crap I've ever gotten for it is with my parents, who still mostly believe that sexuality is a choice. I think one reason is because, in the West at least, there's the term Sex Sells. Being a virgin or uninterested in sex could signify someone who hasn't 'grown up'. As for those other people, they don't know just who you are, and they should quit getting their garter belts in a twist because you don't want to do something! @BOBBY COXX , if I can make a reply to that, those thoughts are alien to me as well. When I exercise, it's because of a chore or to keep healthy and feel good with myself. I just plain enjoy walking, too. Pretty similar with eating healthy; I'm a bit of a Health Nut and I hate the thought of wasting life because of sickness. And dressing up? Mostly an ego boost. The only time sex ever crosses my mind is when there's an opportunity to make a sex joke!
Ah, my new rival weighs in! That all makes sense, and your examples all follow pretty logically. I'd like to get inside your head a little more... But this probably isn't the place to do it. I've been quite interested in psychology lately, so both of you please don't mind my curiosity!
See, this is really interesting to me. I believe you when you say you're asexual and I've heard of a few people who are the same way but I've never met anybody asexual in my own life.
You obviously feel very strongly about this so if it's alright I'd just like to get a little more of your perspective? If it's too personal that's okay too.
I'm just thinking- probably 99% of what I do is somehow related to sex. I work out so I can have more sex, I eat healthy and dress stylishly so I can have more sex, and sex probably crosses my mind hundreds of times a day. If that's not a factor for you what replaces that drive? Is there something else you're really passionate about/ obsessed with?
Again if you'd rather not answer I totally get that but I'd love to get some insight into your worldview!
It's totally fine to ask! Like Monos D.O.A I mainly exercise, eat right or dress up to feel good about myself or to keep myself healthy. A lot of the time I simply do what I do because I enjoy it. As for what's in place of my life instead of sex...writing, romantic relationships that don't lead to that, strong friendships...a lot of what the world has to offer other than that. I feel like it's possible I see the world differently than most because I don't really have anything going on in my pants to dictate my actions, but that might just be me. Instead of asking myself if I can sleep with someone, I mainly think about whether I can spend the rest of my life with them. uwu
