You and I have quite different opinions on this one. Maybe because I didn't remember much from the musical (which would then be on me) but I felt like they changed it too much? I loved the musical but the movie version just didn't do it for me. Though i will agree with you on the costumes
As I said, not everyone's bag. I cringed at the start, but the costumes were great and personally I liked what they changed. I've seen both movies and the musical, and I don't remember much from the musical but the bits I do remember? Was nice seeing them in a movie.
But that really is just my personal opinion; it's down to you as a reader to make a choice on whether to watch. It is a lot different from the original, but that's because it follows the premise of the musical.
