年獸一進門，所有圍爐的人便都看著他笑，有的叫道：「年獸，你腿上又添上新炮灰了！」他不回答，對櫃裡說：「備兩帖藥，要一捆OK繃。」便排出九副春聯。他們又故意地高聲嚷道：「你一定又偷了人家的對聯了！」年獸睜大眼睛說：「你怎麼這樣憑空污人清白......」「什麼清白？我前天親眼見你撕了何家的聯，吊著炸。」年獸便漲紅了臉，額上的青筋條條綻出，爭辯道：「撕聯不能算偷......撕聯！......年獸的事，能算偷嗎？」接連便是難懂的話，什麼「新年快樂」，什麼「紅包」之類，引得眾人都鬨笑起來，店內外充滿了快活的空氣。
