Chapter 2
Poppyfrost was blinking slowly, Runningkit was a strange kit. Her only friend was Whiskerstream, the medicine cat, and she didn't seem to have much interest in anything that was connected to fighting. She liked peace, unlike her siblings.
Thrushstar had come to her a few days ago asking if she thought Runningkit was interested in herbs, obviously worried who should mentor Runningkit. Longkit and Sharpkit were warriors, it was clear as day! They were always practising hunting and fighting.
Runningkit on the other hand was a little bit interested in hunting and herbs. She was visiting the medicine den consistently, but still had lots of fun hunting.
Poppyfrost looked over to where Runningkit was sitting, she was just staring at the sky with a face that indicated she was in her world. The kit suddenly shook her head and yawned.
Poppyfrost quickly turned away, she didn't want her kit to feel as if her mother thought she was weird. Poppyfrosts face turned into a frown, Timbernose was still sleeping in the warrior's den and the Dawn Patrol hadn't come back yet. Sharpkit and Longkit were still in the nursery play-fighting, they were waiting for the Dawn Patrol. She sighed.
Oh, Runningkit. Which one are you? When the time comes we might have to keep you back from becoming an apprentice! We don't know your interests! Poppyfrost knew she ought to understand her daughter's thoughts and mind, but it was impossible. Runningkit's eyes shined with anticipation to the thought of hunting, but she was delighted to learn something in the medicine den!
Maybe I just need to stop worrying about her so much and just spend some time with my kits. She thought, Yes. Yes. I'll do that. Poppyfrost shook her head and started grooming herself, she just needed rest. Nothing more and nothing less.

"I don't want to play Longkit! Leave me alone!" Runningkit glared at her brother.
"Oh come on! You never want to play-fight! The only thing you like to do is look at plants! Isn't that boring sometimes?" he complained.
Sharpkit looked over at Runningkit, "Do you want to be a warrior?"
Do I want to be a warrior? I think I don't, but then again! It could be exciting.
She saw from the corner of her eye Thrushstar was looking at her, interested. The she-kit kept quiet for a moment. Runningkit opened her mouth to speak, but Timbernose had just come to the nursery and everyone's attention turned to him.
"Hey, Timbernose!" Poppyfrost greeted him warmly.
"Hi, Poppyfrost! How are my beautiful kits?"
When Poppyfrost was about to speak Sharpkit spoke instead, "We're great!"
He stared at Sharpkit, clearly understanding that she was talking about herself and Longkit. The tom turned away to look at Runningkit.
"You good?" Timbernose asked.
"Yeah," she replied, barely audible.
When Timbernose looked satisfied with her answer, he looked away and started talking to Poppyfrost.
The she-kit remembered suddenly, Thrushstar! Runningkit turned around, seeing Thrushstar looking annoyed and even more worried. What is everyone worried about? I saw Timbernose and Poppyfrost talking about me yesterday, now I'm being observed by Thrushstar! I wonder if Whiskerstream knows. After a few moments, she decided to go ask Whiskerstream.
